Captain America: The First Avenger Movie Review

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Title: Captain America: The First Avenger Directed By: Joe Johnston Starring: Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough So far, so good for The Avengers this summer. Thor’s a pretty cool guy and now it’s Captain America to show off what he’s got. Sure, he comes with the superhero standards – buff body, noble intentions and a sleek costume – but other than that, he’s nothing more than a poster boy for Marvel movies. Steve Rogers makes for a better propaganda symbol than superhero. Chris Evans is Steve Rogers, a Brooklyn native desperate to serve his country. Sadly,…

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

The one person that every looks on to be the hero in a superhero film tends to be the title character. But what about the other people by his side? Most people would title them as “sidekicks” but they are also equally heroes in their own right, especially James “Bucky” Barnes. The fictional character comes to life in the Joe Johnston-directed picture “Captain America: The First Avenger” which is a great delight to many fans of the comics. The other day we got the awesome opportunity to chat with actor Sebastian Shaw. The sharp-dressed man talked about working with Joe Johnston, Chris Evans and how he originally tried to get…

The Wolf Man vs Captain America

Director Joe Johnston Admits Captain America Is Better than The Wolfman

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

Now that director Joe Johnston has lived down the critical and fan disappointment he received last year after the release of his movie ‘The Wolfman,’ he’s assuring comic book fans that his upcoming film, ‘Captain America: The First Avenger,’ will be better, Cinemablend.com is reporting. Johnston is now admitting that he regrets making ‘The Wolfman,’ and he only took the job because for the first time in his career, he desperately needed money. “I had a cash flow problem…money is always the wrong reason for doing something that requires passionate devotion.” Johnston also blames his discontent with ‘The Wolfman’ on the fact that Universal only gave him three weeks to…

Stanley Tucci in Julie & Julia

Stanley Tucci is Captain America's Dr. Erskine

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Stanley Tucci had a fantastic 2009. Not only did he star alongside Meryl Streep in the film that earned her yet another Oscar nomination, Julia & Julia, but he also got a nod of his own for Best Supporting Actor in The Lovely Bones. Apparently Tucci wants to continue riding high in 2010 because not only is the Broadway revival he’s directing, Lend Me a Tenor, getting rave reviews, but he’s also got a string of highly anticipated films due out before the year’s end like Easy A and Burlesque. On top of all of that, Tucci plans to keep himself in the spotlight in 2011 because, as reported by…

The Wolfman Movie Review

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Title: The Wolfman Directed By: Joe Johnston Starring: Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving The Wolfman has everything you’d expect: a furry man-beast, gallons of blood, a few stray organs, ominous characters and howling at the moon. Top all of that off with a stellar cast, effective score and mesmerizing set design and you think you’d have a masterpiece. You could have the finest ingredients in the world, throw them in a bowl and still burn the final product into uneatable char. Director Joe Johnston collected all of the prestigious components, tossed them in the pot and hoped for the best. Oops. Looks like Johnston forgot to…

The Wolfman and Fast and the Furious 4 Release Dates Changed

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Universal Pictures has done a major revision of its 2009 release calendar, moving Fast and the Furious 4, Ridley Scott’s Nottingham and The Wolfman remake. Fast and the Furious 4, originally scheduled to premiere on June 12th, is now set to hit the big screen on April 3rd, taking the place of The Wolfman. The classic monster movie remake, which stars Benicio Del Toro with Joe Johnston directing, has been pushed to a November 6th release date. Scott’s Nottingham, starring Russell Crowe, was bumped from 2009 entirely and will open sometime in 2010, but no official date was set. Universal said the reshuffling was the sensible thing to do, considering…
