Polo Club Founder Adopts Girlfriend to Protect Assets From Civil Suit

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Florida polo club founder John Goodman, 48, has adopted his 42-year-old longtime girlfriend, Heather Laruso Hutchins, ABC News is reporting. Attorneys believe the adoption, which was formalized in October 2011, is a legal maneuver to protect his financial assets from a civil lawsuit he’s involved in. He’s facing trial for a drunk driving accident that killed 23-year-old Scott Patrick Wilson. In a court order, West Palm Beach Judge Glenn Kelley wrote the case borders “on the surreal and takes the Court into a legal twilight zone.” The judge also wrote “the Defendant has effectively diverted a significant portion of the assets of the children’s trust to a person with whom…

In Your Opinion: The Artist

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

There are few movies I forgot to talk about before 2011 ended, three of them being “The Artist,” “Pariah” and “Shame.” In the first “In Your Opinion” segment of the day, we’ll take a look at “The Artist.” “The Artist” is a silent film starring Jean Dujardin, BĂ©rĂ©nice Bejo and John Goodman and tells the story of a leading man (Dujardin) who’s career is at a turning point due to the invention of the “talkie.” Meanwhile, extra Peppy Miller (Bejo) is just starting her career in movies. The film has gotten the love from most critics and is one of the clear frontrunners for Best Picture at the Oscars. On…

Monique's Top 10 Movies of 2011

Saturday, December 24th, 2011

We here at ShockYa are giving your our top 10 movies of 2011, so I shall keep the series going with my top 10. A lot of films that I wanted to put in this list didn’t make the cut (like “The Help,” a film that I feel is a lot better than some critics give it credit for), but I think the list I have to present to you is fairly strong. 1.“The Artist”: This film, starring Jean Dujardin, BĂ©rĂ©nice Bejo and John Goodman is probably going to be the winner of a ton of Academy Awards. Not only is it expertly made, but it’s the only silent film…

The Artist Movie Review

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Title: The Artist Director: Michel Hazanavicius Screenwriter: Michel Hazanavicius Cast: Jean Dujardin, Berenice Bejo, John Goodman, James Cromwell, Penelope Ann Miller, Missi Pyle, Uggie Screened at: IFC Center, NYC, 11/29/11 Opens: November 25, 2011 Something unusual, nay extraordinary, is happening in the race for the film guild awards this year. The favorite is not the sort of picture that has won big in times past such as the highly literate British entry (“The King’s Speech”), a timely look at a war that has gripped the soul of our country (“The Hurt Locker” ), an imaginative animated feature with mythic resonance (“Lord of the Rings”), or an epic tale of one…

NYFF 2011 Movie Review: The Artist

Monday, October 17th, 2011

Title: The Artist Director: Michel Hazanavicius Cast: Jean Dujardin, BĂ©rĂ©nice Bejo, John Goodman, Missi Pyle, Malcolm McDowell, James Cromwell and Penelope Ann Miller This is a magical film! Simply stated, there’s not much really more to say but to say that “The Artist” is a magical movie. It takes what people love about movies and it’s early days, and puts that landscape and elements and infuses them with an innocent and charming love story. By matching the style, subject matter and the passion into one film seems like a gigantic undertaking but filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius makes it look effortless and powerful. Taking place at the dawn of Hollywood in the…

So Dude goes to The Big Lebowski and manages to get a new-used rug,…

Movie News Cheat Sheet: Flight Gets John Goodman, DreamWorks Gets The BFG And Frank Or Francis Gets Kevin Kline x 2

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Welcome to October! Even though we’re creeping closer to Halloween, the Movie News Cheat Sheet almost entirely steers clear of spooky territory. Beyond a new trailer for Paranormal Activity 3 and claims that John Travolta is a vampire, the material here is rather tame. We’ve got some exciting casting news to share including Frank or Francis‘ double dose of Kevin Kline as well as Flight‘s growing roster that now boasts names like John Goodman and Melissa Leo in addition to Denzel Washington and potentially Don Cheadle. Warner Bros. is looking to hire as well, but the studio is scouring the market for a director rather than an actor. Christopher Nolan,…

Red State Movie Review

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Title: Red State Directed By: Kevin Smith Starring: Michael Angarano, Kyle Gallner, Nicholas Braun, Melissa Leo, Michael Parks, Anna Gunn, Matt L Jones, Stephen Root, Kerry Bishé, Ralph Garman, John Goodman, Kevin Pollak Thanks to a great deal of unusual and somewhat off-putting hype, it’s nearly impossible to go into Red State without any preconceptions. There’s no denying Kevin Smith made some questionable decisions during Red State‘s road to the public, but, in the end, how can you judge him when he managed to deliver? On a B-movie level at least. Travis, Jarod and Billy-Ray (Michael Angarano, Kyle Gallner and Nicholas Braun) are teenage boys and – surprise, surprise –…
