Movie Review Round-Up: The Rum Diary

Monday, October 31st, 2011

I’m actually not sure what the expectations were for Johnny Depp’s “The Rum Diary,” but it seems to have hit the “middle-of-the-road” mark with both critics and audiences, according to Rotten Tomatoes. While audiences have given it the benefit of the doubt by giving it a 60%, the critics weren’t too happy with it, giving it a rotten 51%. Want to know why they gave it such a bad rating? Check out some of the critics’ reasoning below. “There’s a reason why ‘The Rum Diary’ didn’t find a publisher until a late-in-life Thompson resurgence, and it’s clearer still in this adaptation–there’s no real drama here.”–Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger “Essentially an…

The Rum Diary Movie Review

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Title: The Rum Diary Directed By: Bruce Robinson Starring: Johnny Depp, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Rispoli, Amber Heard, Richard Jenkins, Giovanni Ribisi Critically, Johnny Depp has been all over the map for the past few years, however, one thing remains consistent, the guy is dedicated. Give him an icon like J.M. Barrie, someone more eccentric like Jack Sparrow or even an animated character like Rango and Depp seizes the opportunity and gives the role everything he’s got. Then again, you can’t forget that acting is only one aspect of the moviemaking puzzle and while Depp stands tall yet again in The Rum Diary, he can’t keep the rest of the piece…

New Site And Poster Out For The Rum Diary

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

“The Rum Diary,” starring Johnny Depp, has a new poster out, as well as a new website. The poster, featured below the post, is the final poster that will be released for the movie and the official site, which can be found here, is not as trippy as you’d expect a website about a film about a Hunter S. Thompson novel to be. But it’s very slick and stylish with the right amount of edge, fitting for such a film. Also below the post is the film’s trailer. “Based on the debut novel by Hunter S. Thompson, “The Rum Diary” tells the increasingly unhinged story of itinerant journalist Paul Kemp…
