A slew of rumors regarding casting for the upcoming “Thor” movie for Marvel, which is being directed by Kenneth Branagh, have hit the internet, according to Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood. Rumors point towards the studio pushing to cast Josh Hartnett in one of several roles, including nemesis and Asguardian trickster god Loki. Several other names that have popped up are actress Natalie Portman, Charlie Hunnam (“Sons Of Anarchy”), and Alexandar Skarsgard (“Generation Kill”, “True Blood”). Marvel Comics’ Editor-In-Chief Joe Quesada recently spilled the beans to MTV News on a conversation he had with actor and director Kenneth Branagh, who has recently agreed to helm the live-action adaptation of Marvel’s “Thor”, the Norse god of thunder. “We spent seven or eight hours with Kenneth where he meticulously took us through the beats of the ‘Thor’ movie along with [Marvel Studios head] Kevin Feige and our friends at Marvel West, [...] We just sat there, and it was almost like he acted out the entire movie. Kevin McKidd Up For Thor

“Rome” and “Journeyman” actor Kevin McKidd claims he’s still in the running to play Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the Marvel Comics character, according to a report by IGN. McKidd recently told IGN that he’s a contender for the lead role and that there has been “a lot of back and forth” between various people about the project, but could confirm nothing else, but that nothing has been determined. More Connections Between Branagh And Marvels Thor

Even more news is surfacing regarding Kenneth Branagh’s not-totally-official-yet directing of Marvel Studio’s “Thor” movie, tentatively scheduled for release in July of 2010. Branagh, best known for his combination of film and stage work, as well as his film adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Henry V”, which he directed and starred in, has been rumored since this past September to be Marvel’s somewhat unusual choice for directing their big-screen adaptation of the Norse thunder god character.
