Alvin And The Chipmunks Chipwrecked

Movie Review Round-Up: Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

For the longest, I thought “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” was a direct-to-DVD deal. Apparently, not. But, the fact that “Chipwrecked” made it to the theaters shows that making these CGI chipmunks must be getting cheaper and cheaper to create. According to Rotten Tomatoes, this children-only film starring Jason Lee, Justin Long, Jesse McCartney, Matthew Gray Gubler, Amy Poehler, Anna Faris and Christina Applegate has a measly 14% rating, and audiences, surprisingly, gave it a 66% fresh rating. Here’s what the critics had to say: “Flails about in search of a creative reason to exist.”–Nick Schager, Village Voice “You usually have to go to an Adam Sandler movie…to see something…

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked Movie Review

Friday, December 16th, 2011

Title: Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked Director: Mike Mitchell Starring: Jason Lee, David Cross; and the voices of: Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, Amy Poehler, Anna Faris, Christina Applegate, Alan Tudyk Well, at least “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” was not a painful 87 minutes. In fact, after coming off the dreadful “Squeakquel” in 2009, this looked like an Oscar contender (hopefully a studio won’t take that out of context and place it in an on-air promo). The only change in the game-plan for the third installment in the franchise was bringing back Jason Lee to near full-time status. And while it is nice to have someone who…

Tyler Labine in A Good Old Fashioned Orgy

Interview: Tyler Labine Talks A Good Old Fashioned Orgy, New TV Show

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

“A Good Old Fashioned Orgy” and “Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil” costar Tyler Labine has the physicality, wit and jester’s eyes that mark him as the latest garrulous inheritor to the comedy scepter wielded previously by the likes of Chris Farley, Dan Fogelman and Zach Galifianakis — which is to say a big guy with a bigger personality. In person, however, the thoughtful, soft-spoken Labine hardly seems a performer, let alone the likes of one who’s already carved out an impressive comedic presence in a relatively short period of time. ShockYa recently had the opportunity to chat one-on-one with the actor and burgeoning producer, about “Orgy,” sexual swinging spanning the last several decades, the correct quotable line…

The Conspirator

The Conspirator Movie Review

Friday, April 15th, 2011

Title: The Conspirator Director: Robert Redford Actors: James McAvoy, Robin Wright, Tom Wilkinson, Alexis Bledel, Justin Long Many historical dramas are fueled by their filmmakers’ conspiracies and theories on what happened during the event they’re depicting. But Robert Redford proved what an experienced, fantastic filmmaker he is with his latest directorial effort, ‘The Conspirator,’ which is being released to mark the 146th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s death. Instead of trying to push his own personal ideals onto his audience, Redford instead rightfully focuses on several different angles of President Lincoln’s assassination without taking away the American leader’s dignity. ‘The Conspirator’ follows the wake of President Lincoln’s assassination in Washington,…

Going The Distance Poster

Going The Distance Movie Review

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Title: Going the Distance Directed By: Nanette Burstein Starring: Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Christina Applegate You’d think it’d be nearly impossible to make a decent romantic comedy with all the genre garbage we get every year. Look at all the junk we’ve already suffered through in 2010: Leap Year, When in Rome, The Bounty Hunter, The Back-up Plan, Killers and more. What it comes down to is that we’ve basically seen it all before and it’s just not funny anymore. Now what we’re left with is exaggerated versions of those overused gags making them even less amusing and more annoying. However, Going the Distance takes a…
