Happy Sunday! Or should I say, happy Harry Potter week? After seven days of madness courtesy of the grand finale of the eight-film franchise, the web world is drenched in Potter news, discussion pieces, lists, photos and more. Jessica Biel has signed to play Melina in director Len Wiseman’s remake of the 1990 sci-fi action movie ‘Total Recall,’ Collider is reporting. Kate Beckinsale, Wiseman’s wife and star of his directorial debut, ‘Underworld,’ has been cast as ‘Total Recall’s other female lead, Lori. Just hours after Biel and Beckinsale’s casting was confirmed, The Hollywood Reporter announced fellow ‘Underworld’ alum Billy Nighy was chosen to portray resistance leader Quatto. Hollywood is all about mining for old properties to remake and cash-in on an established fan base. This is nothing new and should always be expected. Their latest is Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 sci-fi classic, “Total Recall”. Colin Farrell and Brian Cranston have already been cast to play the hero and villain, respectively, in this remake. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Ethan Hawke will join the cast. At this time, it is unclear on which role Hawke will play but it is expected to be somewhat of a cameo appearance. With the fourth installment of the ‘Underworld’ series scheduled to begin filming in March, Swedish directors Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein are currently in talks to helm it together, Cinemablend.com is reporting. The series’ studio, Lakeshore Entertainment, began looking at the Swedish directors after screenwriter John Hlavin finished the script. The third sequel is rumored to be shot in 3D. It also has an expected release date of early 2012, much like its two immediate predecessors, ‘Rise of the Lycans’ and ‘Evolution,’ did in 2009 and 2006, respectively. Warner’s trailer for the upcoming adaptation of the comic book “Whiteout”, for showing at San Diego Comic Con the year before last, has leaked online. You can see it right here care of Slashdot. Based on the hit comic book by acclaimed writer Greg Rucka, Beckinsale plays a US Marshal who is investigating a murder at the South Pole, and only has so long before the dark polar night sets in and traps her and the survivors at the Pole with the murderer, whoever it is. “Whiteout” is scheduled to hit theaters September 11th, 2009. Dark Castle Entertainment has released an official synopsis, as well as two official photos, from the upcoming Antarctic murder mystery/thriller “Whiteout”, adapted from acclaimed writer Greg Rucka’s 1998 comic book of the same name for Oni Press about a US Marshall investigating a murder at the South Pole. “Carrie Stetko, the lone U.S. Marshal assigned to Antarctica, is investigating the continent’s first murder, which draws her into a shocking mystery.
