My Week with Marilyn

My Week with Marilyn Movie Review

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

Title: My Week with Marilyn Director: Simon Curtis Starring: Michelle Williams, Eddie Redmayne, Kenneth Branagh, Julia Ormond, Emma Watson, Toby Jones, Dominic Cooper, Judi Dench, Dougray Scott, Philip Jackson “My Week with Marilyn” is essentially a 99 minute biopic that showcases the infamous actress and sex symbol’s tumultuous stint on the 1957 production of the feature film, The Prince and the Showgirl. Now most biopics will attempt to cover the subject’s entire life, or at the very least, the important parts. Obviously, the title alerts you that we are only going to get a sample-size of the celebrity that constantly turned heads…in more ways than you’d think. The story is…

My Week With Marilyn Moved From November 4 To November 23

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

Originally, “My Week with Marilyn,” starring Michelle Williams, was supposed to be released November 4, but news has been released that the film will be released a few weeks later on November 23. Here’s the official synopsis of the film: “In the early summer of 1956, 23 year-old Colin Clark, just down from Oxford and determined to make his way in the film business, worked as a lowly assistant on the set of “THE PRINCE AND THE SHOWGIRL”, the film that united Sir Laurence Olivier with Marilyn Monroe, who, whilst shooting, was also on honeymoon with her new husband, the playwright Arthur Miller. Nearly 40 years on, his diary account…

NYFF 2011 Movie Review: My Week With Marilyn

Monday, October 10th, 2011

Title: My Week With Marilyn Director: Simon Curtis Cast: Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Emma Watson, Julia Ormond, Toby Jones, Dominic Cooper and Judi Dench Being in awe of celebrity is reason enough to write about that experience, especially if it was a personal and long-lasting experience. This is not a new theme explored by Hollywood. The latest one that comes to mind was Richard Linklater’s “Me and Orson Welles,” this experience gains a bit of insight to celebrity, catching the figure in an honest light. In the new film from Simon Curtis, “My Week With Marilyn” explores intimate moments between the author of the source material, Colin Clark…

Thor

DVD Review: Thor, The Mentalist, How I Met Your Mother, Basket Case and Clash of Empires

Saturday, October 1st, 2011

“Thor,” an almost $450 million worldwide box office hit earlier this year, introduced audiences to one of the players in Marvel Studios’ grand, forthcoming ”Avengers” saga. And that’s part of the problem, honestly. However admirably ambitious the creation of a unified superhero universe spanning multiple movies, certain entries, like this one, play like little more than origin story pattycake – wan set-up for something of later, actual consequence. On the verge of ascending to the throne of Asgard, headstrong Norse God Thor (Chris Hemsworth) flips out over some nasty ice giant interlopers who are vanquished in fairly short order, and decides to seek revenge, against the counsel of his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins),…

Thor 2 Coming Down the Pike, but No Director Signed

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

CinemaBlend is reporting that a sequel to Marvel/Disney’s movie “Thor” is underway! The film is set for a 2013 release. For those that were fans of the film, that’s the good part. The bad part is that there is currently no director signed to the project, which means that Kenneth Branagh must not be coming back. Sources say that there might have been an issue with money as to why the director known most for his Shakespeare adaptations won’t return. However, Deadline is reporting that Branagh might be on the sequel in some sort of producing role because, thankfully, this isn’t a case where a director is mad at a…

Thor Movie Review

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Title: Thor Directed By: Kenneth Branagh Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgard, Kat Dennings, Clark Gregg, Idris Elba, Colm Feore, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Josh Dallas, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, Anthony Hopkins As someone who isn’t up-to-date on her comic book reading, these films tend to be a bit of a blur. However, lately, that sensation fades after the films’ releases. Thanks to Marvel, over the years, I’ve gotten to know tons of endlessly fascinating characters like Iron Man, Spider-Man and more. Of course there were less memorable ones like Daredevil and the Punisher, but rest assured, Thor certainly earns his place in the latter…

Thor Movie Needs Major Reshoots

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

The actors of the highly-anticipated Marvel superhero movie ‘Thor’ are heading back in front of the camera for major re-shoots, Cinemablend.com reported on October 10. Director Kenneth Branagh isn’t just bringing his actors back to add additional close-up shots; he wants to bring in additional minor characters with non-speaking roles. The extras would be ‘Nordic’ men, women and children with what Branagh calls “charactery faces.”  There’s no official word yet on how extensive the reshoots will be. It’s common for directors to bring actors back during post-production to film additional scenes after seeing how the pacing of the movie is going while they edit. There’s no word yet if there are…
