Posted by Karen Benardello On December - 10 - 2011 0 Comment

An L.A. County Superior Court Judge has granted a temporary restraining order to Kirsten Dunst against an alleged stalker for sending her dozen of letters and sitting outside her home, TMZ is reporting. The 51-year-old Frenchman, Jean Christophe Prudhon, was ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from the ‘Melancholia’ star and her mother Inez, her home and her place of work. He was also told to stop trying to contact her. Prudhon had visited the Toluca Lake, California home of Inez, on December 3, 2011, asking to see the actress. He also admitted that he sat in his car outside her home 10 times. Prudhon also sent letters  [ Read More ]

Melancholia Movie Review

Title: Melancholia Director: Lars von Trier Cast: Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Alexander Skarsgard and Stellan Skarsgård Lars von Trier is a good example of the auteur theory at work today. His films are very divisive, relentlessly punishing and emotionally heartbreaking, but at the same time there’s this lyrical beauty to them, looming in the background, in terms of the human condition and its extremes. Even at his most basic and simplistic, stripping away the limitations of cinema with his Dogme 95 films, von Trier tries to nail down the limits of human emotion. In his new film, “Melancholia,” von Trier evolves as a filmmaker  [ Read More ]

As someone who’s generally not a Lars von Trier fan, I feel compelled to encourage everyone to toss aside your preconceptions and inhibitions and give Melancholia a shot. No, it’s still not your standard, straightforward Hollywood fare, but that’s what makes it such a unique and genuinely special experience and, after chatting with stars Kirsten Dunst, Alexander Skarsgård and Charlotte Gainsbourg, it seems as though von Trier’s unique way of working is what made creating Melancholia such a genuinely special experience for them. Dunst stars as Justine, a newlywed who attempts to kick off her marriage to Skarsgård’s Michael the right way, but is plagued by depression at their wedding  [ Read More ]

NYFF 2011: Melancholia Movie Review

Posted by Perri Nemiroff On September - 25 - 2011 0 Comment

Title: Melancholia Directed By: Lars von Trier Starring: Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Alexander Skarsgård, Stellan Skarsgård, Brady Corbet, Udo Kier, Cameron Spurr As someone with an appreciation for a more literal approach to storytelling, taking to Lars von Trier’s style of work has never been easy. However, with Melancholia, von Trier finds an absolutely impeccable middle ground, providing the audience with a uniquely sensible tale, but not holding back when dousing the piece with his authorial expressivity, giving us something that’s tremendously stirring. Broken up into two sections, the first part of Melancholia focuses on Justine (Kirsten Dunst). Right after marrying Michael (Alexander Skarsgård),  [ Read More ]

All Good Things Movie Review

Posted by Joe Belcastro On December - 2 - 2010 0 Comment

Title: All Good Things Director: Andrew Jarecki Starring: Ryan Gosling, Kirsten Dunst, Frank Langella, Lily Rabe, Philip Baker Hall, Michael Esper, Kristen Wiig Flashing the words, “Based on a true story” is really an act of genius by studios. With that said, the “Based on” portion of the phrase, is the keywords to dissect here. Studios will use this catch-phrase even if they altered 99% of the original story. One would like to think they refrain from this practice,  [ Read More ]
