According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate is getting ready to launch a network anchored by Tyler Perry. Lionsgate’s CEO John Feltheimer told financial analysts Wednesday that they are looking forward to the launch. “Tyler is one of those rare resources that one could launch a channel with,” he said. “We have a lot of options if we choose to go down that path.” Feltheimer also said that Perry is a “rare piece of talent that can bring an audience anywhere.” A Tyler Perry network could come about one of two ways, said Feltheimer. I can’t believe it, but this is officially it; my coverage of San Diego Comic Con 2011 has come to a close. For five incredibly long days, the experience went by in a flash. The action was non-stop from the moment I touched down in San Diego and while it was extremely exhausting and probably one of the most trying working experiences I’ve ever gone through, it was beyond worth it. That’s that for Friday at San Diego Comic Con and I’m back at home base, well, the hotel. Today was a particularly busy one as I got a taste of exactly how long those lines for Hall H and Ballroom 20 can get. I thought I was jumping the gun by showing up three hours early for the 11:15am panel for The Walking Dead, but apparently about 10,000 people had the exact same idea, as the line stretched from the convention hall all the way down to the bay. I kicked things off at the press conference for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, which featured Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Julia Jones and Booboo Stewart after which Bill Condon, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner took the stage. Reaching new fandom, “The Hunger Games” is the new young adult book series to make its way to the big screen. Just in time to see Harry Potter and Twilight say goodbye. Yahoo! Movies has revealed this new motion poster which highlights, out protagonist, Katniss Everdeen’s Mockingjay pin. The cool thing here is that it’s a motion poster and you can see the mockingjay pin go up in flames, with epic music in the background. This is really cool! Relativity Media has acquired the theatrical marketing and distribution rights for director Marc Foster’s upcoming film ‘Machine Gun Preacher’ from Lionsgate. The movie, which was penned by Relativity’s Untitled Snow White Project screenwriter Jason Keller, stars Gerard Butler and will be released in New York and Los Angeles on September 23, 2011, with additional markets to follow. Lionsgate will work in partnership with Relativity, and will continue to oversee the film’s international distribution. ‘Machine Gun Preacher’ is based on a true story. Lionsgate has obtained the distribution rights to Kevin Smith’s upcoming thriller ‘Red State,’ ComingSoon is reporting. The entertainment company will distribute the controversial movie through Video-On-Demand (VOD), Subscription Video-On-Demand (SVOD), Electronic Sell-Through (EST) and television in the United States. Lionsgate’s marketing and distribution exectutive David Dinerstein will oversee the theatrical release of ‘Red State’ through Smith’s self-distribution label SModcast Pictures.
