DVD Reviews: The Green Hornet, Dinoshark and Megan is Missing

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

The January 2011 release of “The Green Hornet” may have seemed like nothing more than yet another calculated move by Hollywood to co-opt an existent fan base and limit its own commercial exposure. And it “was”, sure. But a film adaptation of this property — based on the original 1930s radio program, which has lived on in movie serials and comic books — was in the works for more than a decade, with a long list of actors inclusive of George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Jet Li and Stephen Chow all at one point attached, in various combinations. In fact, a visionary music video director named Michel Gondry was hired in…

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly this week in an effort to promote his new film “Contraband” and the DVD release of “The Fighter”, Mark Wahlberg revealed that he’s trying to get everyone excited for more “Fighter” films. “…I’m trying to plant the idea in everyone’s head that we should do–not five or six ‘Fighters’ like ‘Rocky’–but one more because the big thing Micky Ward was famous for was his three epic battles with Arturo Gatti. So, we’re talking about possibly one more run at it,” he told the site. He also wants to get the same cast that helped propel “The Fighter” to the Oscar-caliber level it achieved. “Everybody…

The Fighter Movie Review

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Title: The Fighter Director: David O. Russell Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Melissa Leo, Jack McGee Let’s just go ahead and get this unavoidable comparison out of the way. The Fighter is not Rocky for this generation. Not saying it was trying to be – since it is based on a true story of Micky Ward – however, the story does follow the general pattern made famous by Stallone. Which may be indirectly appropriate since the sport of boxing hasn’t really evolved too much in the last thirty years either. The way this flick differs from a Rocky or a Raging Bull is found in the supporting players….
