The ensemble cast of 2011′s hit drama ‘The Help’ were among the surprising winners at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The ceremony, which was held Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center and aired live on TNT and TBS at 8pm ET/5pm PT, presented the Actor statuette for the outstanding film and prime-time television performances of 2011. The Weinstein Company has partnered with Ron Burkle to acquire the U.S. rights to “The Iron Lady”, a biopic of the first and only Prime Minister of The United Kingdom, Margaret Thatcher. The film starring Academy Award winner Meryl Streep (“The Hours”, “Julie and Julia”) as Margaret Thatcher. The film also features Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent (the “Harry Potter” series, “Iris”) co-stars as Thatcher’s husband, Denis. Meryl Streep is in final negotiations to star in the comedy ‘Great Hope Springs,’ which is set to be helmed by ‘Marley & Me’ director David Frankel, Mandate Pictures has announced via a press release. The movie, which was written by Vanessa Taylor, follows a middle-aged couple who attends a counseling weekend after thirty years of marriage. Several actors have signed on to star alongside Meryl Streep in the upcoming Margaret Thatcher biopic ‘The Iron Lady,’ including Jim Broadbent and Anthony Head, Slashfilm.com is reporting. The movie, which is reuniting Streep with her ‘Mamma Mia!’ director Phyllida Lloyd, will feature Broadbent as Thatcher’s husband Denis, while Broadbent will portray Cabinet minister Geoffrey Howe.
