Think about how many new movies hit the big screen a weekend. Must be a lot of films in the works at once, right? Most certainly and this edition of the Movie News Cheat Sheet is a testament to that. We’ve got a handful of casting updates including the possibility of Joseph Gordon-Levitt joining Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained as well as news that Steven Soderbergh might have finally found his Man from U.N.C.L.E., Bradley Cooper. ‘Horrible Bosses’ director Seth Gordon has been hired to helm the upcoming MGM remake of the 1983 thriller ‘War Games,’ Deadline is reporting. The original film was helmed by John Badham and starred Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy as David Lightman and Jennifer Mack, computer prodigies who hacked into a military computer program. While the two innocently believe they’re just playing a computer game at first, they soon realize they could trigger World War III if the computer launches nuclear missiles at Russia. MGM has yet to hire a screenwriter or a cast for the new ‘War Games’ yet, as it’s still early in development. But Gordon will be reuniting…

Twentieth Century Fox’s manufacturing on demand (MOD) program has announced that they are going to release the original film adaptation of “Captain America” on DVD for the first time! After confirming last month that he would be starring in and directing the remake of the 1980 musical drama ‘The Idolmaker,’ Ryan Gosling has now told the film’s studio, MGM, that he has to back out of the project, Deadline is reporting. The actor said he’s too busy to take on another project at the moment. Gosling just finished filming the political drama ‘The Ides of March,’ directed by George Clooney. The two movies in director Peter Jackson’s ‘Hobbit’ series have received official titles and release dates, ReelzChannel is reporting. The films’ partnering studios, New Line, Warner Bros. Pictures and MGM, have confirmed that the first movie will be titled ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,’ and will hit theaters on December 14, 2012; the second movie, ‘The Hobbit: There and Back Again,’ is scheduled to follow a year later on December 13, 2013. ‘An Unexpected Journey’ is a play on the title of the first chapter of the 1937 J.R.R. Warner Bros has officially announced the titles for Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit”. The film is separated into two parts so, obviously, there are two titles. The first Hobbit film will be released on December 14th 2012 and will be called “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” and the second part will be released a year later on December 13th 2013 and will be called “The Hobbit: There and Back Again”. At this point, Vin Diesel can have his pick of any movie project, just coming hot off the $458 million success of “Fast Five”. But Vin Diesel isn’t quite getting into “Furious Six” just yet but now he will take the lead role in “The Machine” for MGM. Ryan Gosling is crafting a deal with MGM to make his directorial debut remaking the 1980 musical drama ‘The Idolmaker,’ Deadline is reporting. While not many details have been made public about the film yet, which the Academy Award-nominated actor would also star in, the original ‘Idolmaker’ was helmed by Taylor Hackford and starred Ray Sharkey.
