The Divide Movie

The Divide Movie Review

Saturday, January 14th, 2012

Title: The Divide Directed by: Xavier Gens Starring: Lauren German, Michael Biehn, Milo Ventimiglia, Michael Eklund, Ashton Holmes, Rosanna Arquette, Courtney B. Vance and Iván González Well, this is January. The month of January is historically known in the movie world as a dumping ground for new releases. Studios and distributors take their movies that have been sitting on the shelf for years or movies quality that is at the very least questionable and release them at the beginning of the year so audiences can quickly forget about them. But strangely, January 2012 is a bit different, movies like “The Grey” and “Haywire” have that high quality you might find…

Anchor Bay Film's Distributing Suspense Thriller The Victim

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

The North American rights to the upcoming suspense thriller ‘The Victim, starring Michael Biehn and Jennifer Blanc, have been picked up by Anchor Bay Films. Preferred Content made the deal with Biehn, who also wrote the film, which will serve as his directorial debut. Biehn said from the first day of shooting, he “had hoped that Anchor Bay would be interested in ‘The Victim.’ I’m very happy that they will be working with us to distribute it.” He added that he loved making a true grindhouse film, which Kevin Kasha, the Executive Vice President, Acquisitions and Co-Productions for Anchor Bay Films, said audiences won’t be disappointed with. ‘The Victim’ follows…

See The Making Of A Killer When Bereavement Hits DVD August 30th

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Okay, I have to admit, part of the reason I’m so thrilled to deliver this news is because the film’s poster rocked a quote from a certain Shockya.com critic. You can check out an image of that poster below, but now we’ve got to get into the meat of this story as the film is certainly deserving of the attention. Stevan Mena’s Bereavement hits DVD and Blu-ray on August 30th courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment. Back in 2004, Mena delivered a film called Malevolence, the story of a group of people who run into Martin Bristol, a boy from Minersville, Pennsylvania who was kidnapped during his youth and bred to…

Take Me Home Tonight Movie Review

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Title: Take Me Home Tonight Directed By: Michael Dowse Starring: Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler, Teresa Palmer, Chris Pratt, Michael Biehn, Lucy Punch, Michelle Trachtenberg, Demetri Martin, Michael Ian Black What’s going on with the comedy genre? Why can’t anyone come up with something original? At least Take Me Home Tonight manages to create a pleasurable atmosphere. The plot’s predictable, the gags are unoriginal, the 80′s look is cartoonishly clichĂ© and, overall, the film isn’t all that entertaining, but thanks to some pleasant characters, it’s surprisingly hard to flat out dislike. Now is that a backhanded compliment or what? At the close of the summer of 1988, Matt Franklin…

Bereavement

Interview: Bereavement Writer-Director Stevan Mena

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

In a market flooded with horror films, it’s easy to assume most are just low-budget productions that fit the industry formula, however, that’s far from the case with the latest from Stevan Mena. Bereavement is the prequel to Mena’s first feature film, Malevolence. Mena actually planned to shoot Malevolence before Bereavement from the very start because Bereavement was just too much for a first feature. That in itself should be enough to prove to you that Bereavement is far from your average studio slasher film; thanks to a great deal of depth, it’s terrifyingly dark and violent. In Malevolence we were introduced to Martin Bristoll, a six-year-old boy who was…

Bereavement Movie Review

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Title: Bereavement Directed By: Stevan Mena Starring: Alexandra Daddario, Spencer List, Brett Rickaby, Michael Biehn, Peyton List, Nolan Gerard Funk, Valentina de Angelis, Kathryn Meisle Bereavement may be a prequel to the 2004 film Malevolence and share some concepts and characters, but otherwise, it’s an entirely different film. Not only is it an incredible improvement in terms of camerawork, score and performances, but Bereavement paints a horrifyingly vivid picture of the mind of a psychopathic killer whereas in Malevolence, that element is missing entirely. It’s one thing to watch victims lose their lives one-by-one, but it’s a completely different experience when you’re well aware of what makes the villain commit…
