But then there’s the category of films that were great books but didn’t translate well at all to the movie format. In fact, it probably would have been better if they didn’t get the greenlight at all. I especially hate the live-action “Grinch” and…

Rise of the Planet of the Apes Movie Review

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Title: Rise of the Planet of the Apes Directed By: Rupert Wyatt Starring: Andy Serkis, James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo, Tyler Labine, Jamie Harris This summer, CGI’s been presented mainly as a gimmick – in good ways, like in Thor, in okay ways, like in Cowboys & Aliens and in nauseating ways, like in Transformers Dark of the Moon. While Rise of the Planet of the Apes is packed with digitally created apes, they are in no way comparable to the CGI planets, aliens and robots we’ve seen in the past few month; they’re as real as they can be without actually being…

Rise of the Apes Moved to Thanksgiving Release Date

Friday, January 14th, 2011

The prequel to the Planet of the Apes series, Rise of the Apes, has been moved to a November 23 release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter and CinemaBlend. The film was originally set to hit theaters June 24, but, according to CinemaBlend, the move to a date like Thanksgiving doesn’t indicate any lack of faith in the film and its ability to clean up at the box office, since both dates are prime real estate for film releases. 20th Century Fox, the company behind the film, will place adventure-comedy The Sitter in the June spot instead. The Sitter is directed by David Gordon Green and stars Jonah Hill. Also…
