Title: Camp Hell (AKA Camp Hope) Directed by George VanBuskirk Starring: Bruce Davidson, Dana Delany, Andrew McCarthy and Jesse Eisenberg Running time: 99 minutes, Rated R Camp Hope is place where Christian children can be amongst each other to find friendship and learn more about their religion. It’s also a place where dark and evil things lurk and attack those children who are questioning their faith and don’t adhere to the strict rules of the camp. Hate is a strong word. I hated this movie. They put Jesse Eisenberg’s name on everything just to cash in on his recent fame and Oscar nomination for The Social Network,  yet he has…

Right now we’re at that delicate yet temporary point in cinema time where we associate vampires with pale-faced, large eyebrow individuals who can flash a wonderfully crooked and charming smile. You don’t think they’re going to suck your blood as much as they will suck the life out of a bottle of hair gel in order get their head of hair perfectly quaffed. What we’re dealing with is the more emotionally in touch vampire, throwing out the crazy predator-like instincts and filling up that void with intense non-sexual longing. So when a remake like “Fright Night” comes around with a vampire like Jerry Dandrige (played by Colin Farrell), the sexiness…

Back when he was busy being a figment of Russell Crowe’s imagination in “A Beautiful Mind,” no one likely would have much expected Paul Bettany to be an ass-kicking action hero. Of course, folks would have said the same thing about Liam Neeson too, and look how that turned out. While wrestlers-turned-actors like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and other muscle-bound he-men in the vein of Jason Momoa still fit the mold for a certain breed of action flick, there are other movies that don’t require the correlative “Men’s Fitness” magazine cover, per se, and in the slick streamlined “Priest” — a sort of vampiric re-telling of the classic Western “The…

Title: Jackboots on Whitehall Director: Edward & Rory McHenry Starring: Ewan McGregor, Rosamund Pike, Richard Griffiths, Alan Cumming, Tom Wilkinson, Richard O’Brien, Timothy Spall, Dominic West and Richard E. Grant Running time: 91 minutes, Unrated A British satirical take on what if the Nazi’s invaded England during World War II and the English have to band together with the help of Scottish highlanders, a Frenchman and an American pilot who thinks he’s battling Russia….and the actors are all puppets. Like most people, I loved Team America; however this was not even in the same league. It looked like a long…long episode of Robot Chicken, but with a bigger budget. All…

Title: Seconds Apart Directed by: Antonio Negret Starring: Orlando Jones, Edmund Entin and Gary Entin Running time: 89 minutes, Rated R Seth and Jonah are twins with telekinesis and have a fondness for video camera voyeurism. When the stars of the football team are found dead after a completed game of Russian Roulette, Detective Lampkin (Jones) sees them as prime suspects and the twins’ classmates and strangers they encounter begin to die in bizarre ways. Jonah’s relationship with the new girl in school causes a rift of jealousy and mistrust that threatens their bond and their “project.” Edmund and Gary Entin are perfectly creepy in the roles that seemed were…

The box office results for the weekend of May 27th – 29th sees the “Hangover II” pack remembering at least one thing…how to attain profits at the B.O. When factoring in the Memorial Day weekend movie-going atmosphere, the sequel to the breakout 2009 comedic giant, is poised to make a run for top grossing flick in 2011 on the domestic side. Meanwhile, “Kung Fu Panda 2″ looks to be a forgotten treasure at the moment. Here are the studio estimates: 1. The Hangover Part II ($86.4 million) 2. Kung Fu Panda 2 ($48 million) 3. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($39.3 million) 4. Bridesmaids ($16.4 million) 5. Thor…

Who’s ready for an extra long weekend? The brand new films in contention at the box office better be because, courtesy of Memorial Day, there’s a whole extra day this weekend to lure in those off from work and school. Then again, even without the holiday this would likely be a big one because we’ve got two potential heavy hitters arriving, and both sequels at that. Just about this time two years ago, The Hangover arrived to fantastic reviews and a relatively strong opening. A $45 million start may not qualify the film as a summer blockbuster, but its incredibly long legs and ultimate climb to over $277 million domestically…

The box office results for the weekend of May 20th – 22nd has “Pirates 4″ cruising to a comfortable takeover in both domestic and international territories. Pirates’ 3D raid was able to steal a ton of “Thor’s” thunder, but ended up playing nice with the “Bridesmaids.” Here are the studio estimates: 1. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($90.1 million) 2. Bridesmaids ($21.1 million) 3. Thor ($15.5 million) 4. Fast Five ($10.6 million) 5. Rio ($4.6 million) 6. Priest ($4.6 million) 7. Jumping the Broom ($3.7 million) 8. Something Borrowed ($3.4 million) 9. Water for Elephants ($2.1 million) 10. Soul Surfer ($1 million) Analysis “Pirates of the Caribbean: On…

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl opened with $46.6 million back in 2003, Dead Man’s Chest with a whopping $135.6 million in 2006 and then At World’s End with $114.7 million the next year. Now, the question is, can the franchise keep it up with the fourth installment, On Stranger Tides? I’m betting on it. Not only does the film have the weekend all to itself, but it’s opening in over 4,000 theaters. How high will On Stranger Tides go? I’ve got a feeling the franchise peaked with Dead Man’s Chest and, as At World’s End‘s performance suggested, will only go down from there, but On…
