After premiering at Sundance, Buried director Rodrigo Cortes’ latest project, Red Lights, a paranormal thriller, has been purchased by Millennium Entertainment. The flick, produced by Cortes, Adrian Guerra, and Cindy Cowan, stars break out actress Elizabeth Olsen, seasoned performer Robert De Niro, actress Sigourney Weaver, and Cillian Murphy. The plot follows De Niro as a famous blind telekinetic, according to reports from The Wrap and Reuters, who becomes the number one target of a “university- backed team of paranormal skeptics.” Millennium Entertainment’s CEO Bill Lee broke the news after nabbing Red Lights. “We are thrilled with ‘Red Lights’ and excited to distribute the film. This definitely has theatrical potential and…

Not many people liked “Valentine’s Day,” and for an understandable reason; there was just too many stars in the film and there were too many storylines for there to be a clean follow-through in the story. The same is true for “New Year’s Eve,” according to the critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The film, starring too many stars (but to name a few, Zac Efron, Halle Berry, Robert De Niro and Sarah Jessica Parker), garnered a 6% from critics, but the audience gave it a solid 60%, showing that this movie, like “Valentine’s Day,” is a crowd-pleaser even though critics hate it. However, let’s read why the critics hate it: “It’s…

Topher Grace came of age on the small screen, in the hit sitcom “That ’70s Show.” Acting was never necessarily part of the grand plan when he was younger, however, so he’s leveraged the success of that experience into a more diverse portfolio on the big screen, dabbling in everything from action movies (“Predators”) and big-budget comic book adventures (“Spider-Man 3″) to political dramas (“Too Big To Fail”) and more offbeat dramedies (“In Good Company”). His new film is “The Double,” an espionage thriller in which he stars with Richard Gere, as an old-and-new pair of government operatives trying to track down a long-dormant but newly resurfaced Russian assassin. ShockYa…

Jackson, Robert Forster, Bridget Fonda, Michael Keaton and Robert De Niro Running time: 154 minutes, Rated R Jackie Brown is a small-time airline flight attendant who gets caught smuggling cash and coke for Ordell, a gun runner. The feds tell her to make a deal, but Jackie doesn’t want to risk going back to jail and having to start her life over, so she enlists the help of bail bondsman Max Cherry to do one final run in order to score half a million dollars. I feel a personal connection when I watch a Tarantino film. One reason…

Title: Killer Elite Director: Gary McKendry Starring: Jason Statham, Clive Owen, Robert De Niro, Dominic Purcell, Yvonne Strahovski, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Aden Young Killer Elite begins with the “Based on true events” tagline. It just so happens the 100 minute feature could have actually happened; as it is based off a book titled, The Feather Men, whose author has been coy on whether or not the content in the pages contain actual truths. Looking into the facts after seeing the film may have one appreciating this standard action piece a bit more. Either way, seeing Jason Statham in this type of role & script once again, we can finally coin the…

Science-fiction is often so terribly difficult to get right on screen because its makers get bogged down in minutiae, trying to craft expansive, futuristic and/or alien worlds, or over-explain the processes that differentiate and separate their plane of reality from that of the present day. “Source Code “, thankfully, is not one of those movies. It grooves, it pulses, it entertains — deftly balancing smarts with a streamlined aim to please. The sophomore effort of director Duncan Jones ( “Moon “), the high-concept techno-thriller is kind of amusingly impatient with some of the nitty-gritty specifics of its own conceit (“Every second explaining things puts more lives at risk!” one character…

“There’s going to be more celebrities here than rehab,” says Katherine Heigl’s cahracter in the newly-released “New Year’s Eve” trailer. While the character was talking about people being in Times Square for New Year’s Eve, that statement could have applied to the movie itself. Just like its predecessor “Valentine’s Day,” it seems like everyone who’s alive in Hollywood is in this movie. The trailer, which is embedded below, shows a lot but really nothing at all except for fluffy, happy, easy-going rom-com movie tidbits. Basically, the story is the same as “Valentine’s Day,” except that Ashton Kutcher and Jessica Biel are playing two different characters (I assume Hector Elizondo, who…

Russell is loading up his next cast with famous faces as is Woody Allen and the director of Snow White and the Huntsman, Rupert Sanders. Meanwhile, 15-year-old Joel Courtney is seizing opportunities that came his way, likely courtesy of Super 8, and looks to lock in two upcoming projects. Sure, there’s an abundance of casting news this week, but as…
