Russell Brand Won't Take Katy Perry's Money in Divorce

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Russell Brand won’t take the 50 percent of Katy Perry’s fortune he’s entitled to in their divorce, TMZ is reporting. The actor and comedian is legally eligible to approximately $20 million of his estranged wife’s money, as they didn’t sign a pre-nup. As a result, everything they earned during their 14-month marriage is community property, and each is entitled to 50 percent of the earnings. Brand’s lawyer filed the final divorce papers on February 7, 2012, after he initially filed papers on December 30, much to Perry’s surprise. The judge won’t make the divorce official until June 30, as there’s a six-month waiting period. The two married in October 2010…

Media Not Surprised by Katy Perry and Russell Brand's Divorce

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

While fans of Katy Perry and Russell Brand were surprised when they announced their divorce plans on December 30, 2011, the media was skeptical of their union from the beginning. David Caplan, a celebrity-news editor who has worked at such publications as People and Star, told MTV News the the singer and actor were mismatched, despite their eccentric personalities. Perry’s “so glamorous, pop ans sexy, and (Brand) is diametrically not like that,” Caplan also said. “Plus, she’s more of a partier than he know, so their lifestyles were at odds.” Despite the rumors leading up to the divorce announcement, the revelation isn’t a shock, Caplan added. “It’s one of those…

DVD Review: Bridesmaids, The Tempest, The Conspirator, Dressed to Kill and The Sentiment of The Flesh

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Too many romantic comedies witlessly hone in on the differences between men and women to create a heightened-stakes backdrop in which every interaction with the opposite sex is imbued with some sort of grand, gender-statement significance, which is of course then supposed to be neatly resolved and tidily put away by the time a paired-off happy ending rolls around. Co-written by Annie Mumolo and “Saturday Night Live”‘s Kristen Wiig, “Bridesmaids” instead focuses a considerable amount of its energy on female friendships, yes, but also the things women want in relationships — love, security, availability — that are the same as men. The result is the best female-fronted Hollywood comedy in years, and a…
