Hugo Movie Review

Posted by Perri Nemiroff On November - 21 - 2011 0 Comment

Title: Hugo Directed By: Martin Scorsese Starring: Asa Butterfield, Chloe Moretz, Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helen McCrory, Ray Winstone, Emily Mortimer, Christopher Lee, Michael Stuhlbarg, Frances de la Tour, Richard Griffiths, Jude Law Part of the beauty of filmmaking, is the ability to transport viewers to another reality. Back in the late 1800s and early 1900s, filmmaker Georges Méliès seized the opportunity to put stop tricks and painted film cells to use, combining his skills as a magician and filmmaker to, quite literally, bring dreams to life. Ultimately, we’re still doing the very same thing today, but with the wildly advanced technology and more thorough understanding of storytelling, director  [ Read More ]

Sacha Baron Cohen Might Join Django Unchained

Posted by monique On November - 14 - 2011 0 Comment

The casting list for Quentin Tarantino’s “Southern” “Django Unchained” has been one of the biggest developing stories in entertainment, mostly due to the against-the-grain casting, and it’s about to get even bigger and crazier now that there’s news that Sacha Baron Cohen might be joining the cast. Or he’s one of those actors that don’t have a “type,” so it’ll be very interesting  [ Read More ]

Posted by Rudie Obias On October - 11 - 2011 0 Comment

Last Wednesday, the organizers of the New York Film Festival announced there will be a special “work in progress” screening to take place on the following Monday, October 10th. They didn’t announce what the film would be but they teased it by saying it was a movie that would come out later this year and it was by a legendary master filmmaker. That’s it! Tickets went on sale to the general public on that Friday, October 7th, and if you were a member of Lincoln Center then it would go on sale for you on that Thursday, October 6th. Now I am not a member of Lincoln Center, although I  [ Read More ]

For all her success as an actress, Jodie Foster has had one of the more strangely cursed modern-day careers as a director. She’s made some good movies (“Little Man Tate” remains underrated), but she’s also had countless projects fall apart, including a wonderfully scripted period piece circus tale which Russell Crowe was attached to for quite some time, before a shoulder injury finally scuttled production for good at the last moment. “The Beaver” represents Foster’s latest Waterloo, through no particular fault of her own. A unique and well regarded debut script from writer Kyle Killen made the rounds in Hollywood, and for a while had Steve Carell attached to star. When  [ Read More ]
