Evil Dead Coming Back To Theaters

The principles behind the classic horror film “Evil Dead” have, 28 years later, decided to re-release the film in theaters, 28 years later. According to Paste.com, Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert are planning to re-release the film in theaters next year. The creators and Grindhouse Pictures will offer midnight showings in select Landmark theaters in the U.S., and Mayfair Cinema in Canada. More venues will be announced at the start of 2010. UGO is reporting that Dylan Baker has confirmed his return as Curt Connors in the upcoming “Spider-Man 4″, directed once again by Sam Raimi. It is unknown if Baker as Connors will continue simply as the college science professor and friend of Peter Parker/Spiderman, or if he will be one of the villains in the upcoming film. First introduced in 1963 in “The Amazing Spider-Man”, Professor Curt Connors inadvertently becomes the villainous Lizard after experimenting with reptilian DNA to replicate their regenerative powers, hoping to regrow his own lost arm. Sam Raimi Producing Refuge

Sam Raimi, according to The Hollywood Reporter, has signed on to produce the supernatural horror pic “Refuge”, based on a pitch from up-and-coming British director Corin Hardy. Jason Blum, Steven Schneider, and Nathan Kahane are all producing. “Refuge” is about a remote town that is terrorized by a mythological Yeti beast, the Bigfoot-like creature said to be native to the mountains of the Himalayas. Sam Raimi Tackling World of Warcraft Movie

Variety is reporting that acclaimed director Sam Raimi (the “Evil Dead” and “Spider-Man” films) has signed on to direct “Warcraft,” a live-action film adaptation of “World Of Warcraft”, the fantasy video game franchise. Legendary Pictures and Blizzard Entertainment are mounting the film, with Warner Brothers distributing and co-financing. Charles Roven, who produced “The Dark Knight”, is attached to produce. The “Warcraft” universe, first launched in 1994 with the first game, is about a fantasy war between the two races, the Horde and the Alliance. The game has since developed a global fanbase and expanded the franchise to include books and comics based in the world of the game. Stay tuned…

Gary Ross has been tapped to rewrite the in-development script for “Spider-Man 4″, which brings him back together with Tobey Maguire, who starred in the Ross-directed “Seabiscuit”. Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios are hoping to put the film into production early next year, which Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Drag Me To Hell) will once again direct, based on the characters by Stan Lee (Silver Surfer, Iron Man) and starring Kirsten Dunst (All Good Things) and Tobey Maguire (The Crusaders, Spider-Man 3).
