Title: I Don’t Know How She Does It Reviewed by: JM Willis Directed by: Douglas McGrath Starring: Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear Running time: 89 minutes , Rated PG-13, Available on DVD Kate Reddy, a financial executive juggles her career and responsibilities as a wife and mother of two, as rivals, friends and family comment in awe to an unseen/unheard interviewer. Kate breaks the fourth wall as she explains “how she does it.” I stumbled upon the Uma Thurman box office bomb Motherhood a few weeks ago while channel surfing at my parents’ house, and found the storyline in comparison eerily similar. Mom has to juggle being…

Drama, drama, drama. And no, I’m not referring to the genre. We’ve got folks at odds all throughout the industry. India’s Central Board of Film Certification isn’t happy with the level of nudity in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but David Fincher isn’t willing to make the required cuts, so it looks like Dragon Tattoo will be a no go for India. Similarly, Hungary gave a rather naughty Shame poster the thumbs down. On the other hand, we’ve also got quite a bit of film appreciation floating around out there, namely the nominations for the 84th Academy Awards. Hugo topped the pack with 11 honors while The Artist followed…

Not many people liked “Valentine’s Day,” and for an understandable reason; there was just too many stars in the film and there were too many storylines for there to be a clean follow-through in the story. The same is true for “New Year’s Eve,” according to the critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The film, starring too many stars (but to name a few, Zac Efron, Halle Berry, Robert De Niro and Sarah Jessica Parker), garnered a 6% from critics, but the audience gave it a solid 60%, showing that this movie, like “Valentine’s Day,” is a crowd-pleaser even though critics hate it. However, let’s read why the critics hate it: “It’s…

Abigail Breslin earned $65,000 for four hours’ worth of work on the upcoming animated film ‘Zambezia,’ TMZ is reporting. According to the payment agreement she signed with the film’s producers, the 15-year-old actress was paid an hourly rate of $16,250. The payment was for voicing the bird Zoe in a one four-hour recording session. The high payment comes after Breslin received another massive payment for a short period of work. For this week’s new romantic comedy ensemble film, ‘New Year’s Eve,’ she signed a one-week contract in May 2011 for $275,000. In the movie, she plays Hailee, the daughter of Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Kim. Written by: Karen Benardello

Hi, ShockYa readers! Monique Jones here–I’m taking over the “Box Office Report” for this week and next week for Joe Belcastro, who is on a well-deserved vacation. Now, with the housekeeping out of the way, let’s get into some box office reporting, shall we? Before we get into the studio estimates, I just want to say that there’s been a small trend in studio estimates as of late. Three movies in particular, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Help” and this week’s number one, “The Lion King,” broke initial studio predictions. There are bigger ramifications as to why this is important, but I’ll get to that in the…

Here’s an early “Movie Review Round-Up” of sorts. “I Don’t Know How She Does It” is supposed to be a movie for the woman of the 21st century who balances home and work life while keeping her marriage stable. But just from the trailer, the film seemed pretty predictable. It turns out that it’s worse than just predictable. The film is currently at 20% rotten on Rotten Tomatoes, but the audiences have given the film a 67%. Critics, however, think the movie is, according to Rotten Tomatoes, “[a] limp comedy with a hopelessly outdated viewpoint on gender, featuring Sarah Jessica Parker in rote Carrie-mode.” “Carrie” is referring to Carrie Bradshaw,…

Title: I Don’t Know How She Does It Director: Douglas McGrath (‘Emma,’ ‘Infamous’) Starring: Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear Adapting a popular novel, particularly one that is filled with social commentary and has been described as the “national anthem for working mothers,” into a film has never been an easy task. However, director Douglas McGrath has naturally brought the story of working mother Kate Reddy, the main character of the critically and commercially acclaimed book ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It’ by Allison Pearson, to life in the new film of the same name. While the story mainly focuses on Kate’s inner struggle and conflict to…

The Weinstein Company and Rainmaker Entertainment have announced the all-star cast that will be a part of the upcoming 3D CGI-animated film “Escape from Planet Earth.” The cast for the film includes Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba, Rob Corddry, James Gandolfini and Craig Robinson. “’Escape From Planet Earth’ has got it all… explosions, romance and a cast of hilarious aliens….what more could you ask for?” said director Cal Brunker (“Despicable Me,” “9″, “Horton Hears a Who!”). “We are having a great time making it which is coming across on the screen. It will ultimately provide a ton of fun for both kids and their parents.” “We’re excited to…

“There’s going to be more celebrities here than rehab,” says Katherine Heigl’s cahracter in the newly-released “New Year’s Eve” trailer. While the character was talking about people being in Times Square for New Year’s Eve, that statement could have applied to the movie itself. Just like its predecessor “Valentine’s Day,” it seems like everyone who’s alive in Hollywood is in this movie. The trailer, which is embedded below, shows a lot but really nothing at all except for fluffy, happy, easy-going rom-com movie tidbits. Basically, the story is the same as “Valentine’s Day,” except that Ashton Kutcher and Jessica Biel are playing two different characters (I assume Hector Elizondo, who…
