Writer Attached To American Gladiators Film

Variety.com is reporting that screenwriter Peter Iliff (“Patriot Games,” “Varsity Blues,” and “Under Suspicion”) has been tapped to pen an adaptation of the hit action gameshow “American Gladiators” for the big screen. The story would focus on the TV show’s characters as super-powered superheroes. “American Gladiators” first debuted on TV in 1988 and has since been broadcast in more than 90 countries around the world. NBC recently revived the show in 2008, in which contestants battle against the Gladiators in physical and athletic challenges. According to Variety.com, Milla Jovovich has been cast to star in “Faces In The Crowd”, Julien Magnat’s upcoming psychological thriller. Scott Mednick, Jean-Charles Levy, Clement Miserez, Kevin DeWalt, and Sylvain White are all on-board as producers for the project, which is Magnat’s English-language directorial debut. Nickelodeon Purchases Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Variety.com is reporting that Nickelodeon, a Viacom division, has purchased the global rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise from the Mirage Group and 4Kids Entertainment for $60 million. This deal allows Paramount, Nick’s sister company, to start on a new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” film to start production, which is planned for a 2012 release. Scott Mednick (“300″) has already been attached to produce that project. Variety is reporting that The Mirage Group, which owns the rights to the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: film franchise, is planning to go ahead with a new live-action adaptation of the classic comic, roughly scheduled for a 2011 release. This would mark the fifth big-screen appearance for the martial-arts reptiles Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael, and their rodent sensei Splinter. This coincides with April 23rd celebrating the Turtles’ 25th anniversary celebration, which includes the first “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” film playing at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Empire State Building being lit green.
