If you don’t know who Genndy Tartakovsky is then you better listen up. He happens to be the creator of a couple of television series including “Samurai Jack” and even “Dexter’s Laboratory.” He was easily one of the strong voices from the early days of Cartoon Network. And now he’s about to show off to the world what kind of talent he has with his feature film debut, “Hotel Transylvania.” In “Hotel Transylvania” we center on Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) who’s trying his best to not only run this monsters-only hotel but to keep his 118 year old daughter Mavis (voiced by Selena Gomez) in the confides of their  [ Read More ]

With “The Dark Knight Rises” right around the corner, of course you should keep an eye out for cast interviews and early reviews, but how about getting a different perspective on Batman? BenBella Books is known for producing nonfiction material, a significant amount of which has roots in the entertainment industry, and one of their latest puts the focus on Batman himself, Christian Bale. Bale’s former publicist and assistant Harrison Cheung and seasoned entertainment reporter Nicola Pittam join forces to give fans a closer look at what’s really going on with the man behind the mask. “Christian Bale: The Inside Story of the Darkest Batman” runs through it all from  [ Read More ]

SDCC 2012 Interview: Nikita’s Lyndsy Fonseca

While I’m certainly still a very movie-centric reporter and love covering film more so than anything, there’s something very special about sitting down with a group of TV reporters and discussing a show – the conversation is heavily focused plot/character. Not that film stars don’t have a good understanding of their characters and movie’s plot, but TV actors talk about their characters and show worlds as though they’re real – and this is true more so than ever with the cast of “Nikita.” That being said, mind the SPOILERS going forward, but if you’re all caught up on the show, star Lyndsy Fonseca is absolutely oozing with passion for and  [ Read More ]

It’s been over six years, but “Silent Hill” is coming back to the big screen. The original video game adaptation starred Radha Mitchell as Rose, the adoptive mother of little Sharon (Jodelle Ferland). Sleepwalking sessions and creepy drawings lead Rose to dismiss her husband’s (Sean Bean) protests and take Sharon to the place in her pictures, Silent Hill. Following game three of the series, in “Silent Hill: Revelation 3D,” Sharon is all grown up and now goes by the name Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens). This time it’s all about Sharon, er, Heather, and her coming to terms with who she is and her connection to the horrific and twisted realm  [ Read More ]

“The Vampire Diaries” is due to role into its fourth season on October 11, 2012, so you know what that means – seasons one, two and three SPOILERS lay ahead! Season three went out with a bang with “The Departed.” Every character’s world was entirely shaken up, and Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) will undoubtedly be entering season four in trying situations. Regardless of Roerig’s protests, he’s one of very few non-supernatural characters left on the show and Trevino isn’t really Tyler anymore; thanks to Bonnie (Kat Graham), he’s Klaus. What does this mean for the guys in season four? We’re going to have to wait until October  [ Read More ]

Shockya at SDCC

Well, it looks like that’s a wrap for me at San Diego Comic Con 2012 – on the ground at least. Melissa will still be on site through the day, but it’s home sweet home for me to write up a few more lingering SDCC 2012 pieces. While I make the lengthy trip back to the east coast, why not revisit Shockya’s SDCC Saturday coverage? Check out all the stories posted yesterday below. Comic-Con 2012: Anna Kendrick Talks About ‘ParaNorman’ SDCC 2012: The Walking Dead Escape VIDEO SDCC 2012 Interview: End Of Watch Writer-Director David Ayer And Star Michael Peña SDCC 2012 Interview: The Vampire Diaries’ Steven R. EndOfWatch

You think you’ve seen all the shaky cam genre has to offer? Wait until you see “End of Watch.” It isn’t a found footage movie per se, but writer-director David Ayer certainly uses a number of unique camera techniques, including footage shot by the characters themselves, to convey this gritty story. Michael Peña stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal as a pair of hotshot police officers who have a blast patrolling the streets, thinking they’re invincible. Things only get better when the duo makes a big bust, but, little do they know, they’re good police work puts targets on their backs. While promoting the film at San Diego Comic Con, Ayer and  [ Read More ]

It’s official; should there be a zombie apocalypse, I’m going to die – like ten times over. In honor of San Diego Comic Con, a portion of Petco Park was completely transformed into the land of the walking dead. Participants had the opportunity to go three routes – dress up zombie-style and try to infect the humans, be a survivor and try to make it to the safety zone without coming into contact with a walker or just enjoy watching the survivors get tormented as a spectator. I had the privilege of running the course as a survivor and, let me tell you, this thing was no joke! “Zombieland” was  [ Read More ]

ParaNorman-Movie

Comic-Con loves animated films and has been welcoming the latest and greatest with open arms for years. But yesterday they introduced an upcoming movie that’s certainly got people’s attention. That movie is “ParaNorman.” There’s plenty of people who are big fans of the animation studio Laika after they churned out “Coraline.” They hope to win over the crowd again with their new sweet and supernatural stop-motion animated movie. The story centers on Norman, an everyday boy with an extraordinary gift: he can see ghosts. He’s an outcast, bullied by some of his classmates and tries his best to hide in the background until an evil curse unleashes throughout the city.  [ Read More ]

Before jumping into our interview with Shane West of “Nikita,” if you’re not fully caught up on the show, you’ve either got to heed this SPOILER ALERT or just embrace the influx of current story and character insight. West is Michael, the object of Nikita’s (Maggie Q) affection. His feelings for her as well as his strong feelings against Percy (Xander Berkeley) compelled him to ditch Percy’s corrupt organization and adopt Nikita’s goal of putting an end to Division. The status of that goal? Complete. So now what? Run Division themselves, that’s what. While promoting the show at San Diego Comic Con, West sat down to address season three’s trajectory,  [ Read More ]

MaggieQ

Any new season brings a big shift for a show’s lead, but in the case of “Nikita,” the show’s third season takes Maggie Q’s character in an entirely new direction. Not caught up on both seasons of “Nikita?” It might be a good idea to mind this SPOILER ALERT as this interview is oozing with season one and two plot details as well as hints at what’s to come during round three. For all of seasons one and two Nikita has had one goal and one goal only – take down Percy (Xander Berkeley) and bring down Division with him. Well, as of the finale of season two, mission accomplished,  [ Read More ]

Oded says, “It’s wonderful.” He adds, “If they asked me to be the lunch boy and deliver sandwiches I probably would have done that, too.” 4:36 – How much do you guys bench? Milla confuses “benching” with “planking,” but then says she doesn’t bench. Michelle says, “I gyrate a lot. It keeps me healthy.” Everyone laughs, but then she turns it around saying she was referring to dancing. 4:35 – Milla says she and Paul have had conversations about the end  [ Read More ]

3:47 – “Game of Thrones” is done, but I’ll be back with “Resident Evil: Retribution” at 4:05pm! 3:45 – One last little “treat,” a painfully short tease of season three which merely consists of the show title and the season three air date, March 31, 2013. 3:44 – Last question is for Emilia. What do you see as Daenerys’ insecurities? Emilia says she’s got a huge amount of them and her self doubt is highlighted in the second season. “She needs to be as strong as she can and not show her fear, but she definitely feels it,” and that’s something she thinks keeps the character human. 3:43 – Robert  [ Read More ]
