The Best and Worst Movies Of 2011 So Far (Karen's Take)

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Continuing with Shockya’s new mini-series The Best and Worst Films of 2011…So Far, this installment ironically includes historical dramas and car action movies on both the greatest and poorest lists. Some of these films successfully integrated historical facts with a captivating storyline and big-budget stunts with a natural bond between the cast, respectfully; unfortunately, the other movies disappointingly failed to incorporate accurate backstories or exciting chase scenes. The Best and Worst Films of 2011…So Far also features some of the most anticipated movies of the second half of the year. The summer seems to want to step away from the historical dramas and action films to instead focus on the…

Box Office Predictions: No One Stands A Chance Against The Green Hornet

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Well, this should certainly be a livelier week. Unlike last weekend where we had just one wide release, and a weak one at that, the second weekend in January welcomes two new big releases to the competition, The Dilemma and The Green Hornet. Between the two, there’s really no contest; The Dilemma doesn’t stand a chance against The Green Hornet. Not only is The Dilemma only hitting 2,941 theaters as compared to The Green Hornet’s 3,584, but the latter will also benefit from the high 3D ticket prices and better reviews, too. Back in 2009, My Bloody Valentine 3D kicked off its run in January with a nice $21.2 million….

Season of the Witch Movie Review

Friday, January 7th, 2011

Title: Season of the Witch Directed by: Dominic Sena Starring: Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Conan The Barbarian), Stephen Campbell Moore, Robert Sheehan and Christopher Lee. The art of making a thrilling and entertaining adventure movie involves mixing the element of surprise with fierce fighting and an enticing storyline. Not only is Relativity Media, the studio that is distributing ‘Season of the Witch,’ promising all these elements in the new supernatural action film, but it’s also claiming the movie throws in magnificent stunts and memorable performances that will leave audiences downright frightened. While the movie, which re-teams Nicolas Cage with his ‘Gone in Sixty Seconds’ director Dominic Sena, certainly delivers…

Box Office Forecast: True Grit Could Finally Come Out On Top

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

It doesn’t look as though the year will start off with a bang considering Season of the Witch is the sole new wide release. If that one starts off anything like Cage’s last supernatural film, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, we’re looking at a mere $17 million opening. However, that film had the benefit of a few other notable names like Jay Baruchel and Alfred Molina, whereas with Season of the Witch, Cage is the main draw. On top of that, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice opened with a theater count of 3,504 while Season of the Witch is getting just 2,816. On the bright side, Season of the Witch is opening unopposed, so…
