Megamind Conquers The Box Office

Monday, November 8th, 2010

Will Ferrell is enjoying yet another big opening weekend. Back in August, his cop comedy The Other Guys began its run with a $35.5 million start and now Megamind demolished the competition, earning the #1 spot at the box office with $46 million. Yes, of course, the film probably got a nice boost thanks to the pricey 3D tickets, but with a $11,668 per theater average it was an impressive performer regardless. Coming in at #2 is the latest from Todd Phillips, Due Date. Even though the film was hit with a barrage of negative reviews, it still managed to pull in a nice $32.7 million. Tack on its $22…

Channing Tatum Cast as Solider in Love and Honor

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

In an effort to make up for his most recent movie, the Diane Lane horse drama ‘Secretariat,’ under-performing at the box office, director Randall Wallace is hoping to rebound by putting together a new independent movie. Wallace wants to bring ‘Love and Honor,’ the story of the reign of the Russian czarina Catherine the Great during the 18th century, to the big screen, Cinemablend.com is reporting. Rumors are also circulating that ‘G.I. Joe’ star Channing Tatum is attached to star as a Virginian solider. He’s sent to Russia by Benjamin Franklin to speak to the czarina. His job is to convince Catherine not to support the British in the pending…

Saw 3D

The Saw Series Comes To A Close With A #1 Box Office Opening

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Saw may not have gone out with a bang, but it did close out its seven-year run with a #1 opening at the box office. Saw 3D took in $22.5 million, which is a huge improvement compared to the last installment’s $14.1 million opening, but still nowhere near Saw II’s $31.7 million, Saw III’s $33.6 million, Saw IV’s $31.8 million or Saw V’s $30.1 million opening. Yes, that $22.5 million is a bit under par, but when you consider the film was made for just $20 million, it’s an instant winner for Lionsgate. Apparently Saw 3D attracted a significant amount of moviegoers looking for a scare this Halloween weekend because…

Paranormal Activity 2

Paranormal Activity 2 Scares Away All The Competition At The Box Office

Sunday, October 24th, 2010

Halloween fever is clearly in the air because not only did Paranormal Activity 2 snag the top spot at the box office, but it demolished the competition. The film might have gotten a serious budget increase going from just $15,000 to a $3 million tab, but it had no problem whatsoever blowing that price tag away its very first week in theaters. The film took in a whopping $41.5 million in 3,216 theaters and, even more impressive, secured a $12,904 per theater average. Jackass 3D took a hefty 57.1% hit in its second week, but it still managed to pull in another $21.6 million to take the second position. So…

Jackass 3D Breaks Bones And Box Office Records

Monday, October 18th, 2010

Odds are, this isn’t the last you’ll see of Johnny Knoxville and the boys of Jackass. Not only did Jackass 3D demolish all of the competition at the box office this weekend, it made $50 million earning it the highest grossing October opening weekend ever stealing the honor from Scary Movie 3 and its $48.1 million. On top of that, it set a daily record for snagging a whopping $28.1 million on Friday. Just because Jackass stole such a significant amount of the box office cash doesn’t mean another newcomer didn’t fair well. Red took the #2 spot with a nice $22.5 million. Then again, when you compare its $6,912…

The Social Network

The Social Network Continues To Outperform The Competition At The Box Office

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

Neither Life as We Know It, Secretariat nor My Soul to Take were a match for last week’s top film, The Social Network. It took just a 30.9% hit in its second week, adding another $15 million to the bank putting it just shy of its $50 million budget with a total of $46.1 million. Snagging the second spot is one of the week’s newcomers, Life as We Know It. It kicked off its run with $14.6 million in 3,150 theaters with a $4,646 per theater average. Following right behind is another first-timer, Secretariat with $12.6 million. Both Secretariat and Life as We Know It are actually in quite similar…
