Variety is reporting that Columbia Pictures is in talks with Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz for the two to join the cast of “The Green Hornet” as a gangster villain and a potential love interest, respectively. The film, which is being directed by Michel Gondry, stars Seth Rogen as the masked crime fighter clad in a green trench coat wielding a gas gun.
The picture is aiming for a fall start date even though a replacement is being sought for Stephen Chow, who was going to play the Hornet’s kung-fu sidekick and chauffer Kato.
Evan Goldberg wrote the script alongside Rogen, and Neal Moritz is producing through Original Films. [...]

First the news that Columbia Pictures will be moving the release date to July 9th, now MTV is reporting that actor Stephen Chow has entirely dropped out of the big-screen adaptation of “The Green Hornet”. Seth Rogen is attached to star in the production, which he co-wrote.
After initially both directing and acting, then dropping out of the director’s chair last year as Michael Gondry was attached to that position in the production, he has now officially left the project entirely, with casting calls going out to replace him in the role of Kato, the Asian martial artist sidekick and chauffeur of the masked and trench coated avenger The Green [...]

Columbia Pictures has moved the release date of Michel Gondry’s comic book adaptation of “The Green Hornet” back two weeks, from June 25th, 2010 to July 9th, 2010.
It was moved to make room for the studio’s all-star cast comedy “Grown Ups”, which was moved from March 12th, to June 25th 2010.
Seth Rogen is attached to star in the production, which he co-wrote. Stephen Chow is also set to star.
