The July 4th weekend has come to a close, but the celebrations will continue for both Summit Entertainment and Paramount. As expected, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse nabbed the top spot with $82.5 million. Stealing the film’s thunder quite a bit is that it earned a record-breaking $68.5 million on Wednesday alone, which means it took quite a hit from day one to day two, a 64.7% drop to be exact. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are a pretty high profile matchup as is the comedy ensemble of Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock and David Spade, but neither were able to take down a gang of animated toys. Toy Story 3 took in another $59 million, but it did take a 47% hit, which is the highest second week drop for a Pixar summer release. Ouch. The Karate Kid gave The A-Team quite a beating at the box office. What was expected to be a close race turned out to be quite the blowout with Jaden Smith snatching up $56 million as compared to Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Rampage Jackson and Sharlto Copley’s disappointing $26 million.
