Sony Pictures has picked up the rights to the sci-fi book “The Electric Church” by Jeff Somers. Trevor Sands has been hired to pen the adaptation, which is working under the title “The Avery Cates Project,” the name of the series of books from Somers. Jimmy Miller is producing the adaptation. Pohlad and Berney Launch Film Distribution Company Apparition

Resident Evil 4 To Start Shooting In September

“Resident Evil: Afterlife,” the fourth installment of the adapted video game franchise “Resident Evil”, is gearing up to start shooting in Toronto September 28th 2009, according to Production Weekly and Comingsoon.net. A release date has also been set of September 17th, 2010, with Alice, portrayed by Milla Jovovich, back. Paul W.S. Anderson has penned the script, with no director announced yet. Milla Jovovich will reprise her lead role as Alice in this fourth installment of the “Resident Evil” series, which takes off where “Resident Evil: Afterlife” ended in Japan. MTV is reporting that the 2005 video game “Shadow Of The Colossus” is going to be getting the silver screen adaptation thanks to Sony and producer Kevin Misher. “Shadow Of The Colossus” focuses on a young man named Wander who travels across a mysterious and foreboding land, and must fight and defeat beings known as the Colossi to restore the life of a girl named Mono. Sony to Produce The B Team

Variety reports that Sony Pictures Entertainment has won the bidding war for the Adam McKay-directed comedy The B Team that will star Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Screenwriter Christ Henchy, who recently wrote the script for the upcoming Ferrell comedy Land of the Lost, is teaming up with McKay to write The B Team with Ferrell and McKay’s production company, Gary Sanchez Productions, and Mosaic producing. Sony has not set a release date for the film, but it is expected to go into production as quickly as the filmmakers can get it ready.
