The Top 10 Robot Movies

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

Robots are back at the box office! Since “Real Steel” is making the box office rounds, let’s take a small retrospective into the subgenre of sci-fi that always popular with audiences, robot movies. These movies aren’t in any particular order; the only requirement is that they have a robot in them. “I, Robot”: The 2004 Will Smith film probably upset some Isaac Asimov fans, but the film was a fun romp, if you will, into the world of the future where robots are now the norm for humanity, but they are also the bane of the humans who fear the imminent uprising of sentient robots. The main robot character, Sonny…

DVD Review: Bridesmaids, The Tempest, The Conspirator, Dressed to Kill and The Sentiment of The Flesh

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Too many romantic comedies witlessly hone in on the differences between men and women to create a heightened-stakes backdrop in which every interaction with the opposite sex is imbued with some sort of grand, gender-statement significance, which is of course then supposed to be neatly resolved and tidily put away by the time a paired-off happy ending rolls around. Co-written by Annie Mumolo and “Saturday Night Live”‘s Kristen Wiig, “Bridesmaids” instead focuses a considerable amount of its energy on female friendships, yes, but also the things women want in relationships — love, security, availability — that are the same as men. The result is the best female-fronted Hollywood comedy in years, and a…

Movie News Cheat Sheet: Shame On Howard Stern, Mike Myers And 3D

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

While the Cheat Sheet is normally packed with the usual suspects – The Hunger Games, The Dark Knight Rises and Twilight, just to name a few – this time around, we’ve got some rather unique stories to share. Unfortunately for Howard Stern, he’s part of the bunch as a hole in his team led to the leaking of Super 8. Another punch to the gut also goes out to 3D technology, as a recent study proves the extra dimension does nothing to enhance a story, rather only offers the potential for discomfort. On the brighter side, Kenny Ortega snagged a dream of a gig, as he’s been recruited to direct…

SDCC 2011: MIMOBOT Brings New Designs, Bigger Drives And Famous Faces To Comic Con

Monday, July 25th, 2011

Who doesn’t love a MIMOBOT? They’re these little USB drives in the shape of all sorts of characters like Batman, Hello Kitty, Darth Vader and more. Sure, they’re small and simple, but it really does make backing up your work that much more enjoyable. In fact, one of the few things I bought while at San Diego Comic Con was their Stormtrooper model. MIMOBOT’s Comic Con booth came packed with many of their beloved designs like their Star Wars line-up, Green Lantern drives, and Batman designs, but the team was also there to introduce a few SDCC 2011 exclusives. Not only were the Harley Quinn and Emily the Strange MIMOBOTs…
