New Line and the ESPN cable sports channel will be producing the sports biopic “Mulkey”. Mike Tollin is attached to direct as well as co-produce the feature. The film is about the life of South Carolina firefighter and assistant high school basketball coach Louis Mulkey, who died while fighting a fire at a Charleston furniture store. The fire department then donated a memorial helmet to the school, who carried it with them to games. The helmet sat on the bench the following season in 2007, when the team won its first-ever state championship. Christopher Wilkinson and Stephen Rivele, who have previously worked on Michael Mann’s “Ali,” are penning the script….

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the remake of “A Star Is Born” from Warner Bros. is moving forward, with a due date in the works apparently. The studio has hired up-and-coming writer Will Fetters to do a draft of the script, which Stephen Rivele, Christopher Wilkinson and Reggie Rock Bythewood have all worked on. Jon Peters, Billy Gerber and Basil Iwanyk are producing the remake, which has already been remade twice before since the 1937 original film.
