And then there were three. Just the other week the short list for the role of Captain America hit the web. Well, it seems as though that list has gotten even shorter. Both The Good Guys’ Scott Porter and Michael Cassidy of the CW’s Privileged are out of the running leaving us with John Krasinski, Mike Vogel, Patrick Flueger, Chace Crawford and Garret Hedlund. While that list and the concept that the actor awarded the role would sign a contract to play the part in a whopping nine films is questionable, Porter and Cassidy’s exits are not. A casting call for “The First Avenger: Captain America” has released an official plot synopsis for the film, an adaptation of Marvel Comics’ iconic shield-wielding and flag-wearing character Captain America. Captain America Film Gets Start Date

“The First Avenger: Captain America” director Joe Johnsto, whose “The Wolfman” hits theaters February 12th, has revealed that Marvel Studios is planning a June start for for filming on the big-screen adaptation of Marvel’s famous character, Captain America. A Captain America movie has been in the works since 1997. The shield-wielding, American flag-themed character first appeared in 1941in Marvel Comics’ predecessor Timely Comics”, and was created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon. “The First Avenger: Captain America” has a tentative release date through Paramount of July 22nd, 2011. Joe Johnston To Direct Captain America

Director Joe Johnston, whose credits include “Hidalgo” and “Jurrasic Park III”, and the upcoming remake of “The Wolfman” starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins, has been tapped to direct Marvel Studios’ much-anticipated “First Avenger: Captain America” movie, detailing the story of the star-spangled shield-wielding WWII hero.
