Haywire Movie Review 4

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Title: Haywire’ Director: Steven Soderbergh Starring: Gina Carano, Antonio Banderas, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Angarano Espionage action thrillers have failed to hold viewers captive in recent years, as many of the genre’s recent entries have only served as platforms for the most memorable stunts by the male leads. Once again, Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh was unafraid to push the limits of filmmaking by crafting a realistic female character-driven spy movie. ‘Haywire’ proves that women can be just as effective as men in any job they set out to do. ‘Haywire’ follows highly trained operative Mallory Kane (played by Gina Carano), who works as a highly-trained black-ops…

Haywire Movie Review 3

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Title: Haywire Director: Steven Soderbergh Starring: Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas So was this Steven Soderbergh’s final project for film school? The question is posed for it seems that the stylish director (Ocean’s flicks, Traffic, Contagion, etc.) couldn’t afford a talented lead for Haywire. Plus, the sound edit, uh, sounds as if a micro-budgeted indie filmmaker made this on his Macbook. Actually, one could probably get better sound out of that computer. Obviously, this isn’t Soderbergh’s senior project and there was some coin behind it ($25 million) as you can surmise from the talented cast that chimed in on this 93 minute flick….

Matt Bomer On Waxing For Magic Mike

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Matt Bomer spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently about his strip-teasing role in Steven Soderbergh’s “Magic Mike.” In the interview (which also contains new pictures from the film), Bomer talked about the newfound respect for women and their various waxing regimens. Bomer said that for the film, he had to get waxed, and it hurt. “I had never been waxed before,” he said. “I’m not a very hairy individual to beginwith, but it was painful. But more than that…it was more the feeling of feeling kind of prepubescent again[.]” “…[T]he regrowth process was really s—y,” he said. “[I]tchy, uncomfortable. I have a newfound appreciation for women, between the waxing, self-tanning, the…

Haywire Movie Review

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Title: Haywire Director: Steven Soderbergh Cast: Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum, Michael Angarano, Bill Paxton Steven Soderbergh is an interesting throwback to directors of yore, in that he is far less precious with his career than many of his contemporaries, and seems to regard the medium of film as inherently a place to explore, and play around. This means not only that he’s rather astonishingly prolific, but also engages in willful genre experiments (the “Ocean’s” trilogy, certainly, as well as something like “Solaris,” and even “Contagion”), plus low-fi adventures like “Full Frontal,” “Bubble” and “The Girlfriend Experiment.” Rather than own one genre or mood,…

But, of course, we’ve also…

The action flick stars mixed martial artist and lead actress Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor and Michael Fassbender, as well as Channing Tatum, Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas. Carano is a believable lethal weapon which makes Haywire all the…

Shockya.com On The Red Carpet For Contagion

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Contagion begins with Beth Emhoff (Gwyneth Paltrow), a woman on her way back from a business trip in Hong Kong. She isn’t feeling too well and opts to point a finger at the usual culprit, jet lag. However, just days later her symptoms intensify, she has a seizure and passes away. This is no common cold or even a freak contraction of the bird flu or contact with anthrax; it’s a new type of virus, one with the capacity to wipe out millions. Apparently the subject matter of the film didn’t disturb the cast too much because a nice chunk of the gang shook some hands on the red carpet…
