Sadly, Warner Bros., Disney, Dreamworks and Marvel have all apparently opted out of Comic Con 2011, but hey, that means more room for Summit Entertainment. Come July, Summit will be right in the middle of the action and has a hefty schedule planned. The studio will offer updates on Paul W.S. Three new actors join thriller Gone

Three additional actors have signed on to star alongside Amanda Seyfried in Lakeshore Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment’s new movie ‘Gone,’ including Emily Wickersham, Wes Bentley and Jennifer Carpenter, www.collider.com is reporting. The thriller will be helmed by Brazilian filmmaker Heitor Dhalia. Summit Entertainment is currently in talks to distribute the big screen adaptation of the controversial novel “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky, collider.com is reporting. The news comes after rumors began circulating in May that Emma Watson and ‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians’ actor Logan Lerman were signed to appear in the film. John Malkovich is also attached to ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ as a producer, and Chbosky is on boarad to write and direct the film. Summit Entertainment Hired Writers to Pen RED Sequel Script

After raking in almost $165,000 at the box office and being nominated for Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, screenwriters Jon and Erich Hoeber have been rehired by Summit Entertainment to pen a sequel to last year’s action-comedy ‘RED,’ Collider.com is reporting. If the studio is happy with the final script from the Hoebers, who wrote the original film, the highest-grossing Summit movie outside of the ‘Twilight’ films, it will officially green-light the follow-up. Summit Entertainment Purchases Film Rights to Night Circus

Summit Entertainment has already picked up the film rights to author Erin Morgenstern’s first novel Night Circus, even though the book won’t be published until September, Comingsoon.net is reporting. The independent studio, which rose to fame after it released ‘Twilight’ in 2008, is hoping to repeat that series’ success with the new romantic novel. Night Circus is set at the turn of the 19th century, and tells the love story of two young magicians who are expected to follow in their illusionist fathers’ footsteps and be enemies. Summit Acquiring The Rights To Homelanders

Summit Entertainment is in negotiations to acquire the big-screen adaptation rights to the young adult book series “Homelanders” by Andrew Klavan. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura has been attached to produce the adaptation, which is about a young man who wakes up one morning in a random nightmare involving forces beyond his control. The first two books in the series are called “The Last Thing I Remember” and “The Long Way Home”. The third untitled volume is slated for release this November. Cable Companies, Movie Studios Launch Extensive VOD Campaign

In an effort to promote and capitalize on the videos on demand (VOD) option, cable companies are entering into a $30 million advertising campaign with Hollywood studios, the Hollywood Reporter announced on March 17. With theater prices rising and the recession continuing, more people are turning to VOD to watch the latest releases. You’d think losing a lead like James McAvoy would be a deal breaker, but replace him with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and it’s like nothing ever happened. Scott Kosar Attached To Dracula Project

Scott Kosar (“The Machinist”, the remakes of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, “The Crazies”) has been brought on to work on the screenplay for “Vlad”, Summit Entertainment’s take on the classic Dracula mythology. The original script was written by Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy”), and Anthony Mandler recently came on-board to direct the project. Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner are producing through their Plan B joint production company. Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production, and Meredith Milton, VP of production, are overseeing the project. Summit Acquires Im With Cancer

Summit Entertainment has acquired the North American distribution rights to the Mandate comedy formerly titled “I’m With Cancer,” which is slated to start shooting later this month in Vancouver. The studio also announced that Bryce Dallas Howard (“Terminator: Salvation”) has joined the project’s cast, alongside James McAvoy, Seth Rogen and Anna Kendrick (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse). Jonathan Levine will be directing the film, based on a script by Will Reiser. McAvoy will be playing a man who learns that he has cancer and ends up successfully battling the disease over several years. Summit Bringing Warm Bodies To Life

Summit Entertainment has acquired the feature-film rights to the romantic zombie novel “Warm Bodies”. Jonathan Levine (“The Wackness”, “All the Boys Love Mandy Lane”) has been attached to both write and direct the film, based on the book of the same name by Isaac Marion. Marion originally self-published the novel before it was picked up by Atria Books, with a publication date set for this summer. “Warm Bodies” will be produced by Bruna Papandrea, with Laurie Webb and Cori Shepherd Stern executive producing.
