The Visual Effects Society (VES) has announced the nominees for the 7th Annual VES Awards ceremony recognizing outstanding visual effects in over a dozen categories of film, animation, television, commercials and video games. 2008’s “Iron Man” led the nominations with five, for scenes and work including the film’s armor HUD and the fan favorite “suit up” scene.

Justin Theroux recently sat down to talk with UGO, and dished on, besides the DVD release of “Tropic Thunder”, the progress happening with the “Iron Man” sequel.

Renowned actor Jeff Bridges, who starred opposite Robert Downey Jr. in this summer’s blockbuster “Iron Man”, recently released an online photo collection of his backstage and personal photography, which Bridges is an amateur practitioner of, from the “Iron Man” shoot.
The rest of the photos an be found here, where Bridges documented not only pre-production meetings and intimate cast moments, but also his own character development process, specifically his character’s trademark, a fully-shaved head.

Entertainment Weekly has an interesting article on the recent controversy surrounding the recasting of James “War Machine” Rhodes in Iron Man 2, with Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard from the first movie, which was one of the summer blockbusters of 2008.
The article points out that Howard was actually the first cast member brought onto the film, before even Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark/Iron Man. Not only that, but he was also the highest-paid of the cast, even over Downey. And while some Hollywood insiders speculated that it was issues with Howard’s on-set behavior that led to the recast, or that it was monetary issued, [...]

Don Cheadle is, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, stepping in to replace Terrence Howard as James Rhodes in the upcoming sequel to 2008’s summer blockbuster, “Iron Man”.
Sources close to the deal are reporting that the replacement stems from financial differences in negotiations with Howard, and that Marvel Studios had initially wanted to work with Cheadle for the first Iron Man film, directed by Jon Favreau.

CHUD.com writer Devin Farasi recently got to sit down with Iron Man director Jon Favreau and dish on the upcoming Iron Man 2, the sequel to the critical summer smash, starring Robert Downey Jr., Jeff Bridges, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Terrence Howard, about Tony Stark, the industrialist who after a life-changing accident saves himself by donning a high-tech suit of armor and later fighting crime as the hero known as Iron Man.
Favreau says he’s very interested in expanding the storylines of characters rather than merely the storylines, and that he is interested in definitely expanding Terrence Howard’s role as Jim Rhodes, aka War Machine, in the next film. [...]

No big surprise, but in a recent interview with actor Terrence Howard, Coming Soon reports that “Iron Man 2″ has already been slated by Marvel Studios. According to the report, shooting will begin sometime in March, 2009 for a 2010 release. No reports yet as to who will star in and direct the sequel.
