Hitchcock Star Kim Novak Claims The Artist Violated Her Work

Posted by Karen Benardello On January - 10 - 2012 0 Comment

Kim Novak, the star of Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller ‘Vertigo,’ is claiming the acclaimed new silent film ‘The Artist’ violated her work, E! Online is reporting. In an interview with Variety, the actress started her interview saying “I want to report a rape. I feel as if my body-or, at least my body of work-has been violated by…’The Artist.’” Novak added that the leading Academy Award contender “could and should have been able to stand on its own without depending upon Bernard Hermann’s score for ‘Vertigo’ to provide it more drama.” The actress added that she felt the combined efforts of Hermann, Hitchcock, co-star Jimmy Stewart and herself were all violated.  [ Read More ]

In Your Opinion: The Artist

Posted by monique On January - 3 - 2012 0 Comment

There are few movies I forgot to talk about before 2011 ended, three of them being “The Artist,” “Pariah” and “Shame.” In the first “In Your Opinion” segment of the day, we’ll take a look at “The Artist.” “The Artist” is a silent film starring Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo and John Goodman and tells the story of a leading man (Dujardin) who’s career is at a turning point due to the invention of the “talkie.” Meanwhile, extra Peppy Miller (Bejo) is just starting her career in movies. The film has gotten the love from most critics and is one of the clear frontrunners for Best Picture at the Oscars. On  [ Read More ]

Monique's Top 10 Movies of 2011

Posted by monique On December - 24 - 2011 0 Comment

We here at ShockYa are giving your our top 10 movies of 2011, so I shall keep the series going with my top 10. A lot of films that I wanted to put in this list didn’t make the cut (like “The Help,” a film that I feel is a lot better than some critics give it credit for), but I think the list I have to present to you is fairly strong. 1.“The Artist”: This film, starring Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo and John Goodman is probably going to be the winner of a ton of Academy Awards. Not only is it expertly made, but it’s the only silent film  [ Read More ]

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well, for some of us. With the end of the year fast approaching, the awards nods are rolling in and this past week a big list was revealed – the Golden Globe nominations. Generally the right films snagged the honors – The Artist, The Descendants, The Help – but we did have a few upsets, namely the lack of Steven Spielberg’s name on the Best Director list for his work on War Horse. Brendan Meyer will certainly be having a very merry Christmas. The young actor was just cast as Stilson in Ender’s Game while Spike Lee turned to Clive Owen for  [ Read More ]

2011 Golden Globe Nominations: Love And Snubs

Posted by Melissa Molina On December - 16 - 2011 1 Comment

Hollywood’s award season is always a time filled with stress, especially for those who tend to follow every other list of nominations that pops up between now and late January. It’s not just stress from those distributors and studio folk who hope that their possible Oscar contender will make the cut, but from press and dedicated movie-watchers like us who bitch and moan the minute a favorite film of theirs doesn’t get awards love. Well, you can’t please them all, which seems to be more and more apparent as recent years have gone by. Perhaps it’s because I find myself even more engrossed in the fall awards season craze, but  [ Read More ]

Apologies for the Movie News Cheat Sheet‘s tardiness, but it was for the sake of Steven Spielberg and Giancarlo Esposito! Totally worth it, right? I’d like to think so, but this Cheat Sheet is packed with some pretty exciting material. Well, the idea of Scott Disick playing Patrick Bateman might not be the most thrilling tidbit in there, but we do have a new director for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and a slew of posters from what should be some of the biggest movies of summer 2012. The trailer department is lacking courtesy of the one for What To Expect When You’re Expecting dropping just after the massive New Year’s  [ Read More ]

The Artist Movie Review

Posted by Brian Corder On November - 30 - 2011 0 Comment

Title: The Artist Director: Michel Hazanavicius Screenwriter: Michel Hazanavicius Cast: Jean Dujardin, Berenice Bejo, John Goodman, James Cromwell, Penelope Ann Miller, Missi Pyle, Uggie Screened at: IFC Center, NYC, 11/29/11 Opens: November 25, 2011 Something unusual, nay extraordinary, is happening in the race for the film guild awards this year. The favorite is not the sort of picture that has won big in times past such as the highly literate British entry (“The King’s Speech”), a timely look at a war that has gripped the soul of our country (“The Hurt Locker” ), an imaginative animated feature with mythic resonance (“Lord of the Rings”), or an epic tale of one  [ Read More ]

NYFF 2011 Movie Review: The Artist

Title: The Artist Director: Michel Hazanavicius Cast: Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo, John Goodman, Missi Pyle, Malcolm McDowell, James Cromwell and Penelope Ann Miller This is a magical film! Simply stated, there’s not much really more to say but to say that “The Artist” is a magical movie. It takes what people love about movies and it’s early days, and puts that landscape and elements and infuses them with an innocent and charming love story. By matching the style, subject matter and the passion into one film seems like a gigantic undertaking but filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius makes it look effortless and powerful. Taking place at the dawn of Hollywood in the  [ Read More ]
