And then there were three. Just the other week the short list for the role of Captain America hit the web. Well, it seems as though that list has gotten even shorter. Both The Good Guys’ Scott Porter and Michael Cassidy of the CW’s Privileged are out of the running leaving us with John Krasinski, Mike Vogel, Patrick Flueger, Chace Crawford and Garret Hedlund.

A casting call for “The First Avenger: Captain America” has released an official plot synopsis for the film, an adaptation of Marvel Comics’ iconic shield-wielding and flag-wearing character Captain America.
The synopsis reads:
“Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment… Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the Super-Solider Serum and bombarded [...]

“The First Avenger: Captain America” director Joe Johnsto, whose “The Wolfman” hits theaters February 12th, has revealed that Marvel Studios is planning a June start for for filming on the big-screen adaptation of Marvel’s famous character, Captain America.
A Captain America movie has been in the works since 1997. The shield-wielding, American flag-themed character first appeared in 1941in Marvel Comics’ predecessor Timely Comics”, and was created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon.
“The First Avenger: Captain America” has a tentative release date through Paramount of July 22nd, 2011.

Marvel Entertainment has released a few updates on upcoming movie adaptations of their properties, including the highly-anticipated “Avengers” film.
“Iron Man 2″ is already filming and still on-schedule for release May 7th, 2010, and release, and the Kenneth Branagh-directed “Thor” still hasn’t made any casting decisions, is in pre-production, and scheduled to being filming in the beginning of 2010. “Thor” is aiming for a May 20th, 2011 release. “The First Avenger: Captain America”, directed by Joe Johnston, is scheduled to start filming in the summer of 2010 and has a tentative July 22nd, 2011 release date.

Director Joe Johnston, whose credits include “Hidalgo” and “Jurrasic Park III”, and the upcoming remake of “The Wolfman” starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins, has been tapped to direct Marvel Studios’ much-anticipated “First Avenger: Captain America” movie, detailing the story of the star-spangled shield-wielding WWII hero. Johnston has been in talks with Marvel since 2006 about the project according to The Hollywood Reporter, though talks of the project only began to actively circulate after the release of Marvel’s blockbuster summer smash “Iron Man”, starring Robert Downey, Jr.
