Over the course of December, we at ShockYa have been writing about our top 10 movie picks of 2011. Along with us, every other movie site has been recounting their favorite films, ranging from documentaries to comic book movies to action/adventure to romantic comedies. Jane Fonda is a favorite of a lot of movie fans, so I’m sure her fans will be glad to see her receive the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award from The Hollywood Reporter. The magazine and site of the same name is reporting that the honor will be given during The Hollywood Reporter’s annual Women in Entertainment breakfast December 7, presented by Lifetime Networks. The presentation by Lansing of the award, which honors a woman who is, according to the site, “a pioneer and leader in her respective industry,” will also coincide with the publication of the magazine’s yearly list of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Entertainment. For their Showrunnners Issue, The Hollywood Reporter interviewed “Family Guy”‘s Seth MacFarlane and found that he wouldn’t be surprised if “Family Guy” went off the air. In fact, he’d almost welcome it. “Part of me thinks that ‘Family Guy’ should have already ended,” he said. “I think seven seasons is about the right lifespan for a TV series. Chalk up another score for “The Lion King”, According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film has become number 10 on the list of all-time top grossing films domestically. According to the article, “The Lion King” has made a total domestic gross of $408.2 million, beating out “Spider-Man”‘s $403.7 million and “Tranformers: Revenge of the Fallen”‘s $402.1 million. Also, within the two weeks of its re-release, “The Lion King” made $79.7 million, more than anyone thought it would make during its two weeks. Worldwide, it’s made $98.7 million. If you’re a person who’s anti-”Glee” iTunes songs, you might be happy to hear this, but if you’re a fan, keep steady. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the popular musical show has slipped down the list of the Billboard Hot 100. According to the site and Nielsen SoundScan, while the cover of “Unusual” came in at No. 65 with 40,000 downloads sold, the top track from Season 2, the cover of “Empire State of Mind,” came in at No. 21 with 106,000 downloads. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Napoleon Pictures, the production company behind “Napoleon Dynamite,” is suing Fox Searchlight for $10 million for allegedly under-reporting royalties as well as taking incorrect revenue deductions. According to the article, the production company filed the lawsuit Aug. 30 in Los Angeles Superior Court; the claim is that Fox Searchlight initially promised huge royalties for the film’s home video sales, but failed to do so. According to the claim, Napoleon Pictures had its share of offers from distributors, but the company decided to go with Fox Searchlight because of their $4.75 million up-front fee and the aforementioned high royalties. Tripoli, Libya has come under the rule of the resistance fighters and that turn of events has led to the release of journalists from several different news outlets. According to The Hollywood Reporter, foreign journalists were released by Libyan forces who were holding them in the Rixos hotel Wednesday. The hotel the journalists were kept in had no electricity and water and food were in short supply. CNN senior international correspondent Matthew Chance kept the Twitterverse and television audiences updated with news via Twitter and television, and announced Wednesday morning through Twitter “Rixos crises ends. The Hollywood Reporter was charged with a heavy task; they were asked by famed television producer Sherwood Schwartz to publish his farewell letter upon his death, which occurred Tuesday of natural causes. In the letter, titled “A Conversation at the Gates,” Schwartz relates his life, particularly the points in his life when he met his wife Mildred and saw his children become successful in their lives. He also reflected on his expansive career in the world of television. It was part of his final wishes that the magazine publish the letter. Funnyman Robin Williams, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is set to star in the romantic comedy “Wedding Banned” for Touchstone Pictures. The film centers on a divorced couple who team up to kidnap their daughter on her wedding day, to spare her from making the same mistake they feel they made years ago. The couple then rekindle their own romance as they hit the road to avoid not only law enforcement, but also the angry groom who wants his bride-to-be back.
