The Grammy Awards, established in 1958 and first televised live in 1971, were originally called the Gramophone Awards and are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States, for outstanding achievements in the record industry. Neil Portnow is the current President of the Academy. The Grammys are considered the highest music honor in the recording industry. The awards ceremony usually features appearances by various entertainers presenting the awards as well as performances by well-known artists.
