It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well, for some of us. With the end of the year fast approaching, the awards nods are rolling in and this past week a big list was revealed – the Golden Globe nominations. Generally the right films snagged the honors – The Artist, The Descendants, The Help – but we did have a few upsets, namely the lack of Steven Spielberg’s name on the Best Director list for his work on War Horse. The two movies in director Peter Jackson’s ‘Hobbit’ series have received official titles and release dates, ReelzChannel is reporting. The films’ partnering studios, New Line, Warner Bros. Pictures and MGM, have confirmed that the first movie will be titled ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,’ and will hit theaters on December 14, 2012; the second movie, ‘The Hobbit: There and Back Again,’ is scheduled to follow a year later on December 13, 2013. ‘An Unexpected Journey’ is a play on the title of the first chapter of the 1937 J.R.R. CinemaBlend is reporting via TheOneRing that extended editions of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy will be playing in AMC theaters over a three-week span this June. After several delays and concerns over possibly having to leave New Zealand due to labor strikes, Warner Bros. has confirmed that Peter Jackson has begun filming ‘The Hobbit,’ www.collider.com is reporting. Serving as a prequel to his award-winning trilogy ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ Jackson’s two-film adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien novel The Hobbit will be released in 3D in December 2012 and December 2013. The two ‘Hobbit’ films will be shot consecutively at Stone Street Studios, Wellington, and on locations around New Zealand, Warner Bros. has also announced via a press release. Sir Ian McKellan, who will confirmed on his personal website that “The Hobbit” films, prequels to the highly successful “Lord Of The Rings” trilogy of films, is set to start shooting in June of 2010. The statement reads; “THE HOBBIT’s, two films, start shooting in New Zealand in June. Filming will take over a year. Casting in Los Angeles, New York City and London has started. According to an interview with actor Dominic Monaghan, all four Hobbits from The Lord of the Rings may return for “The Hobbit” written and produced by Peter Jackson and directed by visionary film director Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth).
