The-Three-Stooges 2012

Title: The Three Stooges Directors: Bobby and Peter Farrelly Starring: Sean Hayes, Will Sasso (TV’s ‘Family Guy’), Chris Diamantopoulos (TV’s ’24′), Sophia Vergera and Jane Lynch Adapting a beloved comedy act from the mid-20th century into a modern-day feature film can put pressure on even the most experienced comedy screenwriters and directors, including acclaimed filmmakers Bobby and Peter Farrelly. While the two writers-directors seem like the perfect duo to script and helm the contemporary film adaptation of ‘The Three Stooges,’ their modernization of the comedy group unfortunately failed to capture the true essence of the popular act. The Farrellys had a commendable idea in bringing ‘The Three Stooges’ to a  [ Read More ]

Box Office Predictions: The Hunger Games To Rule Again

The Hunger Games might have lost its director this week, but, on the bright side, it’ll likely hold on to the top spot at the box office. The film followed up its stellar opening with a notably solid three-week run, and, a 45% drop and $18 million weekend four haul should give it just enough to edge out the newcomers. Hitting just under 3,500 theaters, The Three Stooges should be the one to follow right behind, but the iconic comedy gig likely won’t attract enough newcomers, leaving The Three Stooges with just about $15 million, right in the middle of the gap between The Pink Panther and its sequel. Technically, “The Three Stooges” doesn’t come out until tomorrow, but there have been some early reviews of the film, and I’m a little confused as to what to think about the film. The Hollywood Reporter has given the film a rather glowing review. To paraphrase one commenter’s comment, I wasn’t expecting this review from The Hollywood Reporter. The Reporter’s “Bottom Line” states, “Uncanny casting and an affectionate spirit get the yuck-yucks out.” I’m surprised how well the critic liked the film. However, there’s a different story when it comes to the critics at Rotten Tomatoes. So far, the film has garnered a really low 47%. Sure, that number could go  [ Read More ]

“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” was a $480 million worldwide hit, but buzz-averse distributor 20th Century Fox rolled out the movie in early August with a blitz of TV advertising but otherwise so little fanfare (as per their usual operating procedure, screenings for critics were “opt-in,” and additionally hush-hush) that a lot of more savvy filmgoers who perhaps look to advance reviews and feature coverage peeks as signs of studio confidence in the marketplace thought the movie was a brainless dud. Far from it, actually. Director Rupert Wyatt’s reboot of Tim Burton’s reboot of Fox’s second most well known franchise property (not counting “Star Wars,” which they don’t own)  [ Read More ]

Posted by Karen Benardello On April - 5 - 2011 1 Comment

Sean Hayes has been selected to portray Larry in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming ‘Three Stooges’ movie, deadline.com is reporting. The ‘Will & Grace’ star joins Will Sasso, who has been cast as Curly, but the studio has yet to fill the role of the third stooge, Moe. The slapstick comedy, which is being directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly, is expected to begin production later this month. The Farrellys reportedly cast Hayes for his physical comedy acting, and for channeling the characteristics that made Larry famous in the television show during his audition. While some fans of the show haven’t given the movie their full support, especially with the expected  [ Read More ]

Justin Timberlake may star in The Three Stooges

Posted by monique On February - 23 - 2011 0 Comment

According to CinemaBlend, Justin Timberlake is one of the names in contention to play Larry in the Farrelly brothers’ film adaptation of “The Three Stooges”. Timberlake, along with Woody Harrelson and Larry David are up for the role; Hank Azaria and Johnny Knoxville are up for Moe, and Will Sasso and a bunch of unknown actors are up for Curly. Firstly, this is a random bunch of people competing for these roles. Secondly, it’s an even more random set of people who are competing for the same role. Azaria and Knoxville are at two completely opposite ends of the spectrum. Triply so for Timberlake, Harrelson and David. Let’s not even  [ Read More ]

Variety reports that MGM and the Farrelly brothers are closing in on their cast for The Three Stooges. Sean Penn is set to play Larry, Jim Carrey is in negotiations to play Curly and the studio is zeroing in on Benicio Del Toro to play Moe. Carrey will gain 40 pounds to portray his role in the film, whose script was written by the Farrelly brothers. The Three Stooges will not be a biopic, but rather a comedy built around the antics of the three characters Moe and Jerome “Curly” Howard and Larry Fine. The Farrelly brothers have attempted to make this film for more than a decade and have  [ Read More ]

Farrellys Get Greenlight for Stooges Re-imagining

Posted by Tessa On November - 5 - 2008 0 Comment

After five years of waiting for confirmation to make the film, MGM has greenlit the Farrelly Brothers’ (Dumb & Dumber, There’s Something About Mary, Stuck on You) request for a re-imagining of “The Three Stooges”. The Farrellys are not only going to direct the film, but they will also be using a script they previously wrote with co-writer Michael Cerrone. The Three Stooges has a November 2009 release date and has been given a $45 million budget along with a suggested rating of PG or PG-13. The plot is said to have Moe and Larry holding an “American Idol”-like competition to find Curly. Mention of running several comedic shorts that  [ Read More ]
