In an admission that will come as a considerable disappointment to a former coworker (who, for the record, is decidedly not Goth), my initial memories of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” were somewhat fuzzy. My first viewing of producer Tim Burton and director Henry Selick’s stop-motion animated film, not too long after its original home video release, was marred with, umm, distractions. So I hadn’t the concrete impressions one might have with a more focused viewing — just an impression of the hand-crafted feel, and a lingering sense of disappointment in relation to the movie’s songs, from Danny Elfman. A re-visiting of the somewhat seminal work — which scored a visual effects  [ Read More ]

Usually, the autumn days have us thickening our clothing layers with a dismal expression on our faces, but this fall we think our frowns will be permanently flipped around. We credit our surge of optimism to Grace Potter and The Nocturnals. We got to check out the genre-fusing band on Saturday night, September 24th, at Rumsey Playfield Central Park and the night was magical. That description might sound a bit corny, but Grace Potter and The Nocturnals remind us just why we fell for music in the first place. We have had the band’s 2010 self-titled album on constant replay for the past year, but seeing them perform the tracks  [ Read More ]

Okay, so many of you likely don’t live in the northeast and this is the Movie News Cheat Sheet, so there’s little room for TV references here, but fall is right around the corner! Even with Oscar season approaching, our Academy Awards potentials aren’t getting much love at the box office. After a weak start, Warrior took a tough fall and this weekend newcomer Drive lacked the zest to earn it the #1 spot, or even the #2 one for that matter. In other dark news, Nicolas Cage is apparently a vampire and Tim Burton’s take on Dark Shadows looks  [ Read More ]

The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision is reporting today that Tim Burton is no longer attached to Disney’s live-action “Maleficent” project. “Maleficent” will tell the evil witch’s side of the popular “Sleeping Beauty” story. The project is currently being developed as a film for Angelina Jolie to star. Kid actors normally tend to fall on one of the extreme ends of the spectrum; they’re either frustratingly youthful or abnormally mature for their age. Diary of a Wimpy Kid‘s Robert Capron, on the other hand, is a well-spoken young adult, but very much a kid, too. Capron first hit the Hollywood scene last year in the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie playing Greg Heffley’s (Zachary Gordon) goofy, but well-meaning buddy Rowley Jefferson. Well, Wimpy Kid is back and so is Capron. In the sequel, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, the focus is on Greg and his big brother Rodrick (Devon Bostick), but there’s no way  [ Read More ]

Brolin May Have Burton Direct 'Hunchback Of Notre Dame'

Posted by Melissa Molina On March - 1 - 2011 0 Comment

You figure he worked his magic with that outfit or gave one great pitch, because now his next project happens to be “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” Brolin is developing  [ Read More ]
