The film is a reinvention loosely based upon the George Romero classic about the inhabitants of a small Iowa town beset by insanity and then death after a mysterious toxin contaminates their water supply. Directed by Breck Eisner (Creature from the Black Lagoon, Flash Gordon) and produced by Rob Cowan, “The Crazies” stars Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood, Elektra Luxx), Radha Mitchell (Rogue, Surrogates) , Danielle Panabaker and Joe Anderson and will hit theaters on February 26th, 2010. Getting the opportunity to talk to a director who created a film you absolutely love is a frustrating double-edged sword. You’re thrilled to have the opportunity to chat, but there isn’t nearly enough time to squeeze in every question. This is the fortunate/unfortunate case with Breck Eisner. He’s the man behind the remake of George A. Romero’s The Crazies. Overture Films’ new release ‘The Crazies,’ starring Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchel, ranked third during its opening weekend of February 26-28, earning an estimated $16.52 million. It came in second behind the previous weekend’s box office champion ‘Shutter Island,’ the fourth collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio, and the weekend’s other wide release, Kevin Smith’s ‘Cop Out.’ Those films earned $22.2 million and $18.6 million, respectably.
