Title: Apollo 18 Directed By: Gonzalo López-Gallego Starring: Warren Christie, Lloyd Owen, Ryan Robbins Found footage films are tough things to screw up. They’re almost inherently effective because the technique presents the tale as a “true story.” Well, I guess that makes Apollo 18 a true anomaly. After Apollo 17, NASA calls it quits on trips to the moon – as far as the public can tell. In 1974, the Department of Defense contacts the crew of Apollo 18 and informs them their mission is still a go, but it must be kept top secret, even from their families. Nate, Ben and John (Lloyd Owen, Warren Christie and Ryan Robbins)…

I can’t believe it, but this is officially it; my coverage of San Diego Comic Con 2011 has come to a close. For five incredibly long days, the experience went by in a flash. The action was non-stop from the moment I touched down in San Diego and while it was extremely exhausting and probably one of the most trying working experiences I’ve ever gone through, it was beyond worth it. So, what’d you think? Did you like my coverage choices? Were the formats I chose to report in effective? Do let me know because I’m thrilled to say, it looks as though I’ll be returning to Comic Con next…

I can’t believe it, but I’ve reached the finish line. Saturday at San Diego Comic Con 2011 has come to a close. While I’m certainly looking forward to a long day’s rest and not having to lug my hefty laptop around everywhere I go, my coverage schedule wrapping up is a bit sad. At least it all ended on a high note. Today was another non-stop adventure beginning with Summit Entertainment’s The Darkest Hour presentation. Unlike the big panels in Hall H, this was far more intimate, Summit inviting a group of reporters to a suite in the Hard Rock Hotel to check out some concept art, stills and the…

How many alien invasion films can we handle? This year alone we’ve already had Battle: Los Angeles, Super 8, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and both Attack the Block and Cowboys and Aliens are on the way. Sure, I can’t drape a sense of negativity over all of them, but, let’s face it, ET’s taking over the Earth is a bit, well, overdone. However, after checking out Summit Entertainment’s The Darkest Hour presentation this morning, I can assure you that at least one of the upcoming alien takeover films is worth keeping an eye on. A group of reporters hit a specially outfitted room in the Hard Rock Hotel, decked…

Dimension Films sent us the latest movie trailer for the upcoming film “Apollo 18″ by director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego from producers Timur Bekmambetov, Michele Wolkoff, Cody Zwieg and starring Erica Carroll. Synopsis: Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 17th, 1972 was the last manned mission to the moon. But in December of 1974, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon. Trent Reznor has confirmed via his Nine Inch Nails message boards that he has decided not to join the upcoming movie ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ after all, reelzchannel.com is reporting. The recent Academy Award-winning composer had previously admitted on the message boards that director Timur Bekmambetov had convinced him to not only write the music for the adaptation of the Seth Grahame-Smith novel, but to appear in a cameo role as well. Reznor had originally posted that the news was supposed to be a surprise until closer to the movie’s planned June 22, 2012 release date. But he later changed his mind about joining the movie, and posted the message…

Trent Reznor’s career is vast, spanning out not only from his internationally famous band Nine Inch Nails but into feature-length films. The general audience is already evident of his achievements with his Academy Award win for his score work with David Fincher’s “The Social Network” for best score, but he may be dipping his feet into another sub-genre fairly soon. The famed musician/Academy Award winner will be making a semi-transition from the medium to a feature-length film. Trent Reznor will be not only providing the score for Seth Grahame-Smith’s “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” but will be acting a small but pivotal role in the production. He’ll be appearing as the…

Who’s ready for another found footage movie? Well, whether you’re itching for one or not, Dimension Films is sending Apollo 18 our way on April 22nd. The film claims to reveal the reason why “we never went back,”purporting that Apollo 17 was not the final manned mission to the moon and the government arranged a top-secret mission just a year later, Apollo 18. Upon arriving, everything goes to plan, but soon the pair of astronauts discovers they have company. At this point, the whole found footage technique feels a little overdone, however, most folks, including myself, just can’t get enough. Most recently, Paranormal Activity 2 made a killing, earning $173.5…

Abraham Lincoln finally has his own Mary Todd. Well, it’s more like they’ve finally cast the female actress to play Mary Todd, Lincoln’s wife in the upcoming supernatural flick “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead will take the role, starring opposite Benjamin Walker who’s playing the fictitious version of a revenge-hungry incarnation of our sixteenth president. “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” is a mash-up novel written by Seth Grahame-Smith, which plays itself off as a fictionalized series of diary notes about the president’s secret agenda to wipe out the undead creatures of the night after they killed his mother. His ulterior motive to defeat…

Benjamin Walker, who is most remembered for portraying the title character in the on- and off-Broadway productions of ‘Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson,’ will be playing another president, this time on screen. The actor has been cast as Abraham Lincoln in director Timur Bekmambetov’s upcoming movie ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,’ Slashfilm.com is reporting. Walker was chosen to play the fictionalized version of the sixteenth president after Adrien Brody, Josh Lucas, Oliver Jackson-Cohen and James D’Arcy all screen-tested for the role, but were past on. The film, which is based on last year’s novel of the same name by best-selling author Seth Grahame-Smith, will portray Lincoln as a vampire killer. The script…
