Captain America: The First Avenger Movie Review

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Title: Captain America: The First Avenger Directed By: Joe Johnston Starring: Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough So far, so good for The Avengers this summer. Thor’s a pretty cool guy and now it’s Captain America to show off what he’s got. Sure, he comes with the superhero standards – buff body, noble intentions and a sleek costume – but other than that, he’s nothing more than a poster boy for Marvel movies. Steve Rogers makes for a better propaganda symbol than superhero. Chris Evans is Steve Rogers, a Brooklyn native desperate to serve his country. Sadly,…

Captain America: The First Avenger Movie Review 2

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

Title: Captain America: The First Avenger Directed by: Joe Johnston Starring: Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper, Stanley Tucci Captain America: The First Avenger represents a change of pace in the recent adapted comic-book blockbuster movie practice. The 125 minutes are delivered in a methodical, unplugged manner. Translation: director Joe Johnston is surprisingly attuned of the time period this Marvel Comic hero was conjured up in. That said, there is expensive CGI being wielded when necessary, but a good portion of this plays out like an old Batman and/or Incredible Hulk television show; with the exception of grander set-designs and a quasi-more realistic scenario (for…

The Company Men

The Company Men DVD Review

Monday, June 20th, 2011

Title: The Company Men Writer-director: John Wells Starring: Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper, Craig T. Nelson, Rosemarie DeWitt, Kevin Costner, Maria Bello, Eammon Walker ‘The Company Men’ sounds like a cut-rate, straight-to-video mobster movie starring Michael Madsen, but it’s actually (at least in this incarnation) a tale of white collar woe — an ensemble drama, with a heavy-hitter cast, from ‘ER’ creator John Wells that made its play for sociocultural relevance last December, and got lost in the holiday movie shuffle, grossing a meager $4.4 million after its platform release by the Weinstein Company sputtered and failed. So what gives? Is this downsized drama of the shrinking American…

Tommy Lee Jones Joins The Cast In Great Hope Springs

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Tommy Lee Jones is joining the cast of “Great Hope Spring”. He will joining an all-star cast which will feature Meryl Streep and Steve Carell. There is no release date for this movie but it looks like it will be sometime in 2012. Great Hope Spring was written by Vanessa Taylor (episodes of “Alias” and “Everwood”) and will be directed by David Frankel (“Marley & Me” and “The Devil Wears Prada). The screenplay was on the prestigious Black List in Hollywood. If you’re not familiar with the Black List, it’s OK, most people aren’t. It’s not a bad thing despite the name, it’s called a list of wonderful screenplays that…

Men in Black 3

Men in Black 3 having issues

Friday, March 11th, 2011

One of the entertainment stories that has stayed fluid through the week is the debacle that is the “Men in Black III” production schedule, or lack thereof. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures started production on the film with only one act of the script written. The reasoning behind this decision is because all of the prinicpal actors–Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones–and director Barry Sonnenfeld, were all set to go, and delaying production could have jeopardized the cast. Sony allowed for there to be a break in the schedule so the rest of the script could be completed. However, the break, which was to start in December and end…

The Company Men Movie Review

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Title: The Company Men Directed By: John Wells Starring: Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper, Maria Bello, Rosemarie DeWitt, Kevin Costner, Craig T. Nelson, Eamonn Walker Whether it’s happened to you or someone you know, job loss is a personal matter for the large majority and that makes it a testy topic to manage in a film. If it isn’t represented accurately it could be insulting, then again if it’s dealt with too precisely, it could be too much for some to handle, however, The Company Men approaches the issue quite tactfully. Not only does it deliver a respectable presentation of the hardship, but still manages to maintain a…

Will Smith Will 'Make 3D Look Good' In MIB 3

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

For those of you who’ve been MIA, MIB 3 is happening – now. As reported by MTV’s Splash Page, Sony already filmed a teaser which features Will Smith in his super sleek Agent J suit attempting to reassure the public that making a third Men in Black is a good idea. Unfortunately, the teaser is no longer viewable via YouTube, so you’ll have to settle for Smith’s message in text. I know what you’re thinking – ‘M.I.B., 3-D, we’re going to be blowing stuff up and all that.’ But that’s not really what we’re doing right now. We’re here for one purpose, and for one purpose only: just to let…
