Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Did the Giants win yet? While you’re all downing all of the beer, pigs in a blanket and football you can, I’m here to make sure you’ve got your weekly dose of movies news here waiting for you when you’re ready. Let’s face it, there’s just so long the Super Bowl will sustain a conversation at school or work this week. Well, unless the Giants really do win and you’re from New York like myself. Anyway, on the table this week is the return of James Wan’s Insidious as well as some casting updates for the remake of Evil Dead. Viola Davis, Jessica Chastain and Joel…

Drama, drama, drama. And no, I’m not referring to the genre. We’ve got folks at odds all throughout the industry. India’s Central Board of Film Certification isn’t happy with the level of nudity in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but David Fincher isn’t willing to make the required cuts, so it looks like Dragon Tattoo will be a no go for India. Similarly, Hungary gave a rather naughty Shame poster the thumbs down. On the other hand, we’ve also got quite a bit of film appreciation floating around out there, namely the nominations for the 84th Academy Awards. Hugo topped the pack with 11 honors while The Artist followed…

I’m not a big fan of the cold, but I’d certainly suck it up for a trip to the Sundance Film Festival. Sadly 2012 isn’t my year, but my intense adversity to chilly temperatures at least makes me appreciate being able to watch from the warmth of my New York City apartment for now. On top of all the latest updates from Park City, this Movie News Cheats Sheet also has the lowdown on all the news circling the Hunger Games franchise as well as a play-by-play of the SOPA backlash. The casting realm has two shining stars this week, Liv Tyler who snagged the lead in Ti West’s The…

Here come the superheroes! We’ve got The Avengers plot details as well an update on Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot. On top of that, there are a slew of new stills floating around out there including a few from The Dark Knight Rises and a shot of a duo that might as well be superheroes, Sylvester Stallone and Yu Nan in The Expendables 2. Over in awards season territory, Jennifer Lawrence nabbed the opportunity to unveil the Academy Award nominees alongside Tom Sherak while the critics already revealed their favorite films of the year, which consisted of The Artist, The Help and more. Looking further into the future, James Cameron’s next…

I guess this is really the first Movie News Cheat Sheet of the year. Sure, we ran one on January 1st, but considering that edition was packed with the top stories of 2011, this is your first taste of the best of the best in movie news for 2012. There’s a couple big casting updates to report from Joel Edgerton signing on to lead Kathryn Bigelow’s Osama bin Laden feature to Spike Lee losing another villain option for his remake of Oldboy. Then, of course, awards season nominations continue to come in and this time around, it’s the Writers Guild and Producers Guild pinpointing the finest films of last year….

After a morning packed with Christmas presents, consider this Movie News Cheat Sheet a bit of an after dinner drink to the main meal. Okay, not every item on this week’s list will bring you comfort and joy, but the good most certainly outweighs the not so good. Not a fan of 3D? It pains me to report that both The Avengers and Star Trek 2 will go under the post conversion knife. On the bright and unrelated side, the big screen adaptation of Ender’s Game just snagged a slew of new cast members including Harrison Ford and Abigail Breslin. In other casting news, Lovelace picked up four and might…

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well, for some of us. With the end of the year fast approaching, the awards nods are rolling in and this past week a big list was revealed – the Golden Globe nominations. Generally the right films snagged the honors – The Artist, The Descendants, The Help – but we did have a few upsets, namely the lack of Steven Spielberg’s name on the Best Director list for his work on War Horse. Brendan Meyer will certainly be having a very merry Christmas. The young actor was just cast as Stilson in Ender’s Game while Spike Lee turned to Clive Owen for…

Apologies for the Movie News Cheat Sheet‘s tardiness, but it was for the sake of Steven Spielberg and Giancarlo Esposito! Totally worth it, right? I’d like to think so, but this Cheat Sheet is packed with some pretty exciting material. Well, the idea of Scott Disick playing Patrick Bateman might not be the most thrilling tidbit in there, but we do have a new director for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and a slew of posters from what should be some of the biggest movies of summer 2012. The trailer department is lacking courtesy of the one for What To Expect When You’re Expecting dropping just after the massive New Year’s…

As usual, this Movie News Cheat Sheet is packed with text, but this week, much of that text is geared towards describing the slew of brand new stills that dropped over the past seven days. Not only did we get seven new images from John Carter, but a bunch from The Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus, too. In casting news, word just got out that Gary Oldman turned down the part of The Colonel in Akira and, in rather off-beat casting news, the industry is shocked to learn that a casting associate on Super 8 as well as a number of other child actor-heavy productions is a registered sex offender….

How about some pretty pictures to take back to the office for this short and sweet work week? Bane and Batman make an official showing on the cover of the upcoming edition of Empire magazine while Marvel gives its Avengers the spotlight in two massive character banners. Over in the casting department, The Walking Dead‘s Jon Bernthal is going big screen for Ric Roman Waugh’s Snitch and there’s a good shot that Hugo‘s Asa Butterfield could lead the adaptation of Ender’s Game. There’s also some casting drama surrounding Tyler Perry’s latest, courtesy of the recently married and recently discovered Kim Kardashian’s role in The Marriage Counselor. Lionsgate gives Hunger Games…
