Box Office Forecast: True Grit Could Finally Come Out On Top

Posted by Perri Nemiroff On January - 6 - 2011 1 Comment

It doesn’t look as though the year will start off with a bang considering Season of the Witch is the sole new wide release. If that one starts off anything like Cage’s last supernatural film, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, we’re looking at a mere $17 million opening. However, that film had the benefit of a few other notable names like Jay Baruchel and Alfred Molina, whereas with Season of the Witch, Cage is the main draw. On top of that, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice opened with a theater count of 3,504 while Season of the Witch is getting just 2,816. On the bright side, Season of the Witch is opening unopposed, so  [ Read More ]

Box Office Forecast: True Grit To End The Year With A Bang

Posted by Perri Nemiroff On December - 30 - 2010 0 Comment

As usual, the last weekend of the year will go to a veteran. With no new wide releases and just two minimal limited openings, the top spot will likely be an easy win for True Grit. In its first weekend out, the flick posted an impressive $8,156 per theater average and might even manage to increase that number in weekend two. As for its top competitor, Little Fockers, not only did it debut with a lackluster $30.8 million, but thanks to poor reviews, odds are it won’t hold on as strong as its predecessor, Meet the Fockers, which dropped a mere 9% from Christmas weekend to New Year’s weekend back  [ Read More ]

True Grit Movie Review

Posted by Joe Belcastro On December - 21 - 2010 0 Comment

Title: True Grit (2010) Directors: Ethan and Joel Coen Starring: Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper By: Joe Belcastro The saying, “It’s not about the place, it’s about the people you are with”, refers to the level enjoyment one will have despite a dull setting. True Grit seems to champion that saying. A remake of the 1969 award winning flick – based off the novel by Charles Portis – is laced with patent Coen Brothers (No Country for Old Men) execution. Personally, the methodical, dramatic action pieces the Coen boys take on always seem to lull this reviewer to sleep in random places. For instance, the  [ Read More ]
