Thor

DVD Review: Thor, The Mentalist, How I Met Your Mother, Basket Case and Clash of Empires

Saturday, October 1st, 2011

“Thor,” an almost $450 million worldwide box office hit earlier this year, introduced audiences to one of the players in Marvel Studios’ grand, forthcoming ”Avengers” saga. And that’s part of the problem, honestly. However admirably ambitious the creation of a unified superhero universe spanning multiple movies, certain entries, like this one, play like little more than origin story pattycake – wan set-up for something of later, actual consequence. On the verge of ascending to the throne of Asgard, headstrong Norse God Thor (Chris Hemsworth) flips out over some nasty ice giant interlopers who are vanquished in fairly short order, and decides to seek revenge, against the counsel of his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins),…

It seems that Viacom is bringing back a lot of old-school classics; first, there was news about vintage Nickelodeon shows coming back, now there’s news concerning vintage MTV show, “120 Minutes”. The trailer for the animated ThunderCats show arrives!

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

“ThunderCats” is back! ScreenCrave has the trailer for the new version of the animated show, and from looking at the still of the lead characters as well as the trailer, it would seem that the show will have an anime feel. In fact, I’m going to have to agree with ScreenCrave and say that the show does look very much like “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Even some of the set designs look like the Earth and Fire Kingdoms and the Northern Water Tribe.  Also, if anyone has seen “Cowboy Bebop”, you’ll notice a similarity between the character designs of Jet and Panthero. Not necessarily a bad thing, really; if you…

According to MTV, choreographer Laurieanne Gibson has stated that the music video is “life-changing” and that fans can expect “the highest level of execution in vocal music art and dance.” Hollywoodlife has reported that, according to one of their sources, the video is supposed to be a love letter to the homosexual community and that Gaga will also address the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy she spoke out against at many events,…

Kathleen Parker and Parker Spitzer

Kathleen Parker leaves Parker Spitzer

Friday, February 25th, 2011

For our CNN viewers, you may be interested in learning that Kathleen Parker, one half of the news duo “Parker Spitzer” has left the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Parker leaves after months of dwindling ratings and rumors of contention between Parker and her host, former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer. Two months earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that CNN was considering replacing Parker. However, it should be noted that the show was never a big success to begin with, what with it being a weird mix of “hard” news and infotainment-verging on-rom/com stylings. This blogger is an avid CNN watcher, and after watching some of the show,…

Friday, February 18th, 2011

In a breaking news story by The Hollywood Reporter, it has been revealed that some changes are going to be taking place during this year’s telecast of The Oscars. According to the site, this year’s Oscars will be virtual. Producers of the show, Don Mischer and Ben Cohen, will be relying on projections to create an ever-changing set instead of using traditional sets. Mischer and Cohen told The Hollywood Reporter that the change is supposed to allow them to show the history of Hollywood through the sets. The sets, according to Mischer, will allow for there to be more content than what is usually expected of in an awards show…

Adrianne Palicki

Adrianne Palicki cast as Wonder Woman for TV show

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

Remember that interesting “Wonder Woman” pilot mentioned a few weeks ago? Well, we finally have a face to put to the David E. Kelley-verse “Wonder Woman” show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adrianne Palicki has been cast to play Diana Prince. You might recognize Palicki from the hit show “Friday Night Lights”, on which she played Tyra Collette. She also starred in the 2010 horror/action film “Legion”. She will also be seen in the upcoming “Red Dawn”. Also interesting: she was in the extremely short-lived show “Lone Star”. In the Kelley “Wonder Woman” show, Diana is a woman who is a vigilante superhero who has to balance her superhero work…

Thundercats

Test footage from CGI Thundercats film released

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

This film has been in what people call “development hell” for a while now, and it would appear that it’s been put on hiatus once again, but test footage of the elusive “Thundercats” film has been released, according to ScreenCrave via Flixist. Like stated, it’s test footage, so it’s probably a bit pointless to mercilessly critique it, seeing as how I’m sure things would have been changed (or already have been changed) if the film was on a “full steam ahead” course to post-production, but still, let’s take a closer look at the footage (which you can view below). It would seem the 3D-generated designs of the classic characters focus more…
