Fast and Furious 6 Races Into Theaters Memorial Day Weekend 2013

Universal Pictures has confirmed the upcoming sixth installment of ‘The Fast and the Furious’ franchise, tentatively titled ‘Fast and Furious 6,’ will be released over the 2013 Memorial Day weekend, on May 24, ComingSoon is reporting. The news comes after the latest installment, ‘Fast Five,’ grossed nearly $600 million at the box office worldwide when it was released in April 2011. The amount contributes to the franchise’s $1.5 billion international gross. There’s no word yet if director Justin Lin, who helmed the previous three movies in the franchise, ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,’ ‘Fast and Furious’ and ‘Fast Five,’ will return for the fifth sequel. Ian McShane has been cast as the first dwarf in Universal Picture’s upcoming ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ according to The Hollywood Reporter. The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ actor will appear as Caesar, the leader of the dwarfs. The studio is currently casting the rest of the dwarfs. Kristen Stewart will portray a princess who escapes her evil stepmother, to be played by Charlize Theron, in Universal’s adaptation of the Snow White fairy tale. The princess is aided by a huntsman, to be portrayed by Chris Hesworth, who wants to have her killed at first, but eventually decides to train her instead to survive and fight back….

Roland Emmerich Offered Directing Duties for Asteroids Movie

Universal Pictures has asked Roland Emmerich to direct a movie based on the 1979 Atari video game Asteroids, ComingSoon is reporting. The studio, which has been developing the movie with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and screenwriter Matt Lopez, looked to the popular director, as he has helmed such disaster-action hits as ‘Independence Day’ and ’2012.’ The movie will detail Earth’s future after the planet is destroyed by aliens. Humans are now living in an asteroid belt with the aliens responsible for the Earth’s destruction.
