Rob Letterman has been brought on to direct, with Nicholas Stoller re-writing, for “Stretch Armstrong”, the big screen adaptation of the action figure. With “Twilight” star Taylor Lautner attached to star, the film is based on the 1970′s Hasbro action figure that could pull and stretch its limbs like putty. The toy was relaunched again in the 1990′s. Letterman directed the upcoming “Gulliver’s Travels” for 20th Century Fox, (where he previously worked with Stoller), and co-directed “Monsters vs. Aliens”. A new “Johnny English” film starring Rowan Atkinson is in the works from Universal Pictures and Working Title Films. The sequel to the 2003 comedy “Johnny English”, which starred Atkinson as the incompetent and bumbling British spy who must foil a plot to steal the Crown Jewels of England, is prepping to start production this August. Oliver Parker (“St. Trinian’s”) will be directing the sequel, which was written by Hamish McColl, who has previously written “Mr. Bean’s Holiday”, also starring Atkinson, best known for his “Mr Bean” character. Universal Pictures has confirmed that it is developing a sequel to the 1988 action-comedy “Midnight Run”, which starred Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. The original film, from director/producer Martin Brest, followed ex-cop and bounty hunter Jack Walsh as he went to pick up a bounty on mob accountant Jonathan “The Duke” Mardukes, and deliver him from New York to LA. A “midnight run”, or easy trip, instead becomes a cross-country race to avoid the Mob, the FBI, and to avoid killing each other.
