Taylor Kitsch Starring In Battleship

Taylor Kitsch (the upcoming “John Carter of Mars”, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, and “Friday Night Lights”) has been announced as starring in Universal’s upcoming adaptation of the Hasbro game Battleship. Peter Berg will be directing the film, which is being described as a massive Naval battle where international forces gather to battle an alien menace that is found in the Earth’s oceans. The script was written by Jon and Erich Hoeber. Kitsch will be playing a dashing Naval commander named Alex Hopper. Creature From The Black Lagoon Gets New

Universal’s remake of the monster horror classic “Creature from the Black Lagoon” has a new director. Carl Eric Rinsch is now attached to take the director’s chair. Gary Ross wrote the remake’s original script but Universal is planning to start over. The project’s previously-announced director Breck Eisner is moving on to a remake of “The Brood”. The original “Creature From The Black Lagoon” was released in 1954 and was about a scientific expedition encountering a mysterious merman-like creature that lives in the depths of the waters beneath them. Bioshock Production Halted

Director Gore Verbinski passed on making more Pirates of the Caribbean films for Disney in exchange for tackling the big-screen adaptation of “Bioshock,” the Take-Two Interactive video game. Now Variety is reporting that pre-production on “Bioshock” has ground to a halt due to monetary issues. Originally with a reported budget of $160 million, Verbinski and Universal are looking for less costly ways to film and until then, all progress on the film has halted, according to a report from Variety. Universal’s remake of the 1977 comedy classic Slap Shot is officially moving forward because it now has a director onboard. Dean Parisot, known for directing films such as the Jim Carrey comedy Fun with Dick and Jane, Home Fries, which starred Luke Wilson and Drew Barrymore, and sci-fi parody GalaxyQuest, will be the man in charge of the picture.
