Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Title: Cars 2 Reviewed by: JM Willis Directed by: Brad Lewis Starring: Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy and Michael Caine Running time: 106 minutes, Rated G, Available on standard DVD Lightning McQueen and his best bud Mader are back in the sequel to the Pixar blockbuster Cars. McQueen takes his friends from Radiator Springs with him to the World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car and try out a new earth friendly fuel called Allinol. Mader however gets mistaken for a spy, and unwittingly becomes involved in international espionage. Personally, I didn’t see the need to make a sequel to Cars, since I didn’t think the original…

Coriolanus Movie Review

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

Title: Coriolanus Directed By: Ralph Fiennes Starring: Ralph Fiennes, Vanessa Redgrave, Brian Cox, Gerard Butler, James Nesbitt, Paul Jesson, Jessica Chastain, Lubna Azabal, Ashraf Barhom Back in high school, I always knew I should appreciate Shakespeare, but getting through his work was so tedious, it often took away from the narrative. Then, once I finally understood the text and perhaps should have gone back for a second go-around to appreciate it as a story, it was onto the next book of the semester, forever branding his work a mere school assignment rather than something that was meant to be enjoyed. Thanks to Ralph Fiennes, if Coriolanus ever comes up in…

Anonymous Movie Review

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Title: Anonymous Director: Roland Emmerich Starring: Rhys Ifans, Vanessa Redgrave, David Thewlis, Sebastian Armesto, Rafe Spall, Edward Hogg, Xavier Samuel, Sam Reid, Jamie Campbell Bower, Joely Richardson “Anonymous” takes the often debated real-life conspiracy theory surrounding the authenticity of the literary treasures composed by William Shakespeare, and produces a 130 minute political drama in which the famed author acted as a catalyst that sparked controversy to the throne in England. And when we say author, we (specifically director Roland Emmerich & writer John Orloff) are not referring to the lauded man himself. Just as the promo poster reads, this flick asks the question if William Shakespeare was in fact a…

The Whistleblower Movie Review 2

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

Title: The Whistleblower Director: Larysa Kondracki Starring: Rachel Weisz, David Strathairn, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Anna Anissimova, Roxana Condurache, Monica Bellucci, Vanessa Redgrave A powerhouse drama set against the backdrop of a very complicated and muddied story, The Whistleblower is one of those dramas that induce wearied sighs, furrowed brows and worried thoughts about the default state of human nature. Inspired by actual events, it’s both a crusading cop investigatory thriller and a sort of surrogate, gender-politic struggle-for-equality tale loosely in the vein of North Country. The story centers around Kathy Bolkovac (Rachel Weisz), a tough and exceedingly competent Nebraskan police officer who – facing a divorce, denied a job transfer and wanting…
